Question about a lab
I just got a Lab puppy from a man down the road. The puppies are just farm dogs, and were given away for free. The puppy weighs 6 pounds, does anyone have an idea of how old the puppy is by his weight? Also the just sleeps all the time. I have four dogs, and the others were not this mellow. Is it possibly because she is too young? And If this pup is realy young should I just be giving her puppy food and water, or something else? Thanks a bunch,
Kelsey |

It would be hard to guess, you should ask the person who gave her to you.
Do you have any pictures you could post, it might be easier to guess the age if we had a look. No guarantees though. Cass. |

Try uploading it to photobucket or even here at global paw......
With all three of our litters...the pups started running around for maybe 10 minutes at a time and then pass out no matter what, that was around 6 weeks, and from the weight you've given....it seems to be a good guess. Kylie was only 15 pounds at 3.5 months. Pictures might change everything though. |

She's cute!
From that pic she looks old enough to be away from mum. She's probably just not an overly active pup. Plus she's not been away from her mum and siblings for long so she may take a while to settle in. As long as she's eating and the vet gives her the OK then I wouldn't worry. Cass. |

From the picture, your pup looks to be around 7-8 weeks old. You should probably chekc with your vet though.
You may be having the problem with sleep because she was taken from her mother to early. You could try giving her diffrent types of toys, blankets, ect to keep her mind moving and stop her from wanting to sleep all the time. Besides giving her just puppy food, you can give her diffrent things to start getting her weight up. Roasted chicken, yougert, scrambled eggs, these are all things the vet has told us for when we needed to put some weight back on Jagger. I hope this helped in some way, Kim |
