So many questions for such a little puppy...
Lets see...
1) I'm having great success paper training her she pees on the wee wee pads and hasn't had an accident yet. BUT she has been trying to poo on the pad but misses... her nose is in the right place but her tooshie is always off the pad... should I still say "no" ? Or should I just let it go? 2) Everytime I take my puppy out to the park, she eats the grass and all the Dandelions... haha...does anyone else have this problem? 3) When can I start giving her baths? I started to introduce the tub to her so that she can get accustomed to it... so I'm hoping her first bath will go smoothly... when can I give her a bath? (I hope this doesn't seem like a silly question, I heard somewhere that puppies have very sensitive skin and that they should be bathed starting at a certain age...). In exchange for helpful suggestions... here are some new pictures of 9wks old Sammi. I absolutely love her ![]() |

I've never used wee pads with any of my dogs (didn't even know they existed until I found this site
) so I can't help you with that. Eating grass is perfectly normal and not a problem. Don't know about dandilions. As for bathing, I personally wouldn't actually bathe a pup until he was dirty (when his fur starts to feel dirty or he starts to smell a bit). I bathe my dog maybe once a month, sometimes less. Dogs don't need to be bathed much unless they get seriously dirty on a regular basis (which probably means they're having waaaay too much fun LOL ). Just keep teaching your pup that the bath is a wonderful thing and when you think she's smelly enough ( ) bathe her with some puppy shampoo. And don't forget to touch your dog all over it's body every day (touching between the pads, in her ears, ALL over) to get her use to being handled and get other people in your family (and your friends) to do it too and reward her for being good. This will help when you take her to the vet etc. Also get her use to being groomed (including nails, teeth and ears). I think those things are more important than bathing right now. Cass. |

Most all puppies miss the pad that way till they get to be masters.
NEVER scold her. She will think she shouldn't go on it at all!!!!Grass eating is normal, but take along some treats and do some fun training and rewarding while she's at the park. Eating everything and everything is puppies way of learning, but we have to be the ones to know how to distract this. You can give a puppy a bath at any age, but we usually wait till they are a few weeks old, and NEED one. Use a very gentle non-tearing doggie shampoo. You can also dilute it. You don't need a lot of suds to clean a dog unless he's a filthy mess. Another great shampoo is a gentle castile liquid or bar soap. It wont dry the skin or coat and can be used at any age on dogs and cats. Here is a link to some of Dr. Bronners products: http://www.drbronner.com/drb_index.html |

I agree with the above posters--give a bath only when they need one. I got my new pup at 11 weeks and I gave her a bath immediately because she had a horrible stench from the place she came from. When she plays outside and gets muddy I let her have a good run through the grass--that gets them amazingly clean. Just bathe them when they start to smell nasty. To get my pup ready for her first bath, I filled her tub with water and let her splash around in it for awhile. It turns out she really likes water! Her bath went well, and ever since then, I've randomly filled her tub and let her play in it. This helps make the tub a fun place and make bath time easy.

You may even hop in the bathtub with your pup.
I have my dog for over two years now, and I think i fust had to bath her ont time, because she rolled in something... but I hosed her legs down outside a couple times more, when it was really muddy. Usually they get clean on thir own pretty good when running in Grass Good luck and lots of fun |

They also sell puppy wipes (and I've heard baby wipes will do as well) that you can use to keep your puppy smelling sweet (soooooo sweet!).
