Angry People who feel the need to tell you that their dog is better/smarter

What is it with people (not on this board) who feel the need to say things like: "Oh, my puppy is a PURE breed." "My dog NEVER pulled on his leash." "Your dog is still having accidents at 3 months? Mine only had 1 accident ever!" "I can't believe your puppy nips at people. My dog NEVER did that when she was a puppy."

I know my pup is just a pup and they are all different. But, after a couple of dozen of these comments in a row, it begins to get a person down. It would be wrong to train my dog to eat them though, right ?

No not at all. How big will your pup get? If it's not big enough to gobble them up on it's own, I'm sure there are some bigger pups her who could help out. LOL

I think people just like to feel good about themselves. It's like teasing in school only more polite. LOL I say ignore them. They're probably lieing anyway. I bet their dogs are complete brats but they're to ignorant to realise. Hehehe!

Cass.

I think people who talk that way are not really boasting about their dog but rather trying to boast about their training skills. Really it's a whole lot of bs. Don't pay attention to it

Mum,

But, but, but....my dog IS better than anyone elses dog. Let's face it.

LOL. He pulled on his leash. He destroyed my couch. He had umteen accidents on my carpet, made me buy a carpet shampooer, wasn't housebroken till he was about 9 or 10 months old.

My other dogs, didn't pull too hard since they're Chihuahuas, did pee on the carpet, but only a couple of times, were housebroken sooner than my Dobe. They also chewed on my couch, do plenty of yapping, still steal my clothes out of the basket and roar through the house with them. And when company was here, one of them ran through the house after getting an unmentionable out of the bathroom waste basket and paraded around with that like a wind sock, flying along, in front of guests!

But, but, but....my dogs are still better than anyone elses. LOL.

mine are monsters, I too had to buy a carpet shampoo after so many accidents, they have all at one time pulled the contents of my bin out and spread them round the house, and then to top it all the pup tyson thought it would be a good idea to pinch my knickers out the wash basket and present them to the neighbour I was talking to out the front.
but there still the best.

Every momma is proud of their babies whether they are human or furkids. My dad summed it up the best way possible (I'll paraphrase it here) when he said "There is only one perfect child (puppy) born into this world and every mother has it!"

LOL Carrie...

I just smile and nod because most people don't know what they are talking about/doing anyway.

I've come to the conclusion that most people don't train their dogs, I see people getting yanked across the parking lot at petsmart all the time! And working at a vet can be an eye opener (people who let their dogs bite them and say "he does it all the time", etc)

So they are for the most part all probably lying. Besides, you don't see them on a dog forum trying to learn all they can...

I've had people make it seem as if they're dog is SO well-trained and that my dogs aren't. It bugs me, but I realise that it's not true - my dogs are very well-trained and I don't care how well-trained their dogs are, my dogs are still better! HAH!

LMAO Carrie!

Thanks for all the empathy! I guess in the face of the recent housetraining escapades (2 steps forward, 3 steps back), I'm feeling a little nervous as a dog owner and the remarks get to me. It's funny how much I forgot about training a dog in 13 years since the last one (and, other than chewing, she was easy, I now realize).

I'll just keep thinking Luna is a perfect (-ly annoying, but cute) pup!

I finally replaced all my carpet with tile because my "pure bred" bulldog wasn't house trained til she was 10 mos. She is also very well trained but she only listens when she wants to...she has to want to do it, but when she does it it is great

I wouldn't worry about what people say, all dogs are different. Some catch on quicker than others but that is no reason to get discouraged. Those people who say thatto you, are probably the same people who would get rid of a dog when they present to be a challenge in training (i know people who have done that) instead of working with them. My dog may have or has had issues but she is a keeper!

Well, MY dog has the best bark, if you want to shatter your eardrums. He also has the best ability to choose the most expensive object in a room and chew on it. So he must be a supergenius.

I don't know why people feel the need to brag and put other people's animals down.

And although I'm in favor of purebred dogs because of what it responsible breeding would ultimately mean for the number of animals in shelters, etc., once a dog exists there's no reason to brag about it being purebred! For heaven's sake.

Oh, and I forgot to say that my dog is also part vacuum cleaner! If rock-eating were a sport, Winston would be a gold medalist, no question. Therefore, he is truly the best dog ever. Sorry to the rest of you, LOL.

What a kick you guys are! Yes, it's easy to forget what monsters puppies are, even when you've had them. You tend to forget the bad stuff when it's time to get a new puppy. You put that out of your mind. LOL.

People say weird things to me all the time about the big, black, vicious Doberman.....or rather, did when he was younger. "You better watch out that he doesn't lash out at someone." "What if he bites you and turns on you?" "Those are the dogs who's brains keep growing and their skulls don't and they go crazy." Just the other day, Lyric was bouncing around playing, not being naughty, just playing and leaping up on the deck for a pat and then back down on the grass to play. My own boyfriend said, "You're going to have trouble with him." Trouble? My trouble with him is over. He's two years old and he's a well behaved, sweet natured dog and a very good ambassador to his breed, gentlemanly when we go someplace around people, obedient. He's just exuberant at times when it's OK.....playtime, not laid back like bf's Lab or my Lab who passed away recently. He's got a lot of personality and a sense of humor to beat all. So, that ticked me off. But....it made me all the more determined to prove to bf and anyone else what a good Doberboy my Leeeeeery is and will be. Grrrrr. Moms get defensive of their babies. LOL.
