Even stranger behavior....

So it's natural for male dogs to cough... hump right? Right.
But what about female dogs? My puppy who's only about 4 months
old likes to pounce when she fetches things... and we love playing
this game where I hide under my comforter and peek out.... once
she spots me she'll pounce on me... Okay... so one day I stuck out my
arm (under the conforter) and she wrapped her arms around my arm
and started humping! O_o ?!

What's going on?

My sister's female dog does that. LOL She's got a foot fetish though. I wouldn't worry about it, but I can't tell you want it is. I've heard it was related to dominance but it could also be hormones. *shrugs* You'll have to wait until one of our experts gets here...but yeah, don't worry too much about it.

Cass.

When puppies play with their litter-mates, they will do this as an establishment of dominance. There are things you can do, like telling her "No" and stop playing. I put my pups on their back to show them I am boss. I'm sure Kit or Carrie can give you more methods to stop this behavior, but it is a natural thing for pups. Try to stay above her...as in, when you are laying down and playing, she is over you, another establishment of her dominance over you. Same thing when a dog will put it's paw on your leg when they want a good scratch. They put their paw on you and you scratch...they are telling you what to do.

My female does that also and only tries to do it on my arm, not my husbands or son's arm. She's not big enough to go for the legs..lol. I just give her a firm no and she's stop. Though she still tries to arm hump now and then, the little stink.

lol I was calling my dog a little stink. It would be like calling her a little brat. It's just an endearing word cuz I love her not because she smells.

I was also using bad grammar without using my punctuation. I fixed it. hehe!

I agree that in most cases, dogs will do this to show that they've got it all under control, (LOL....I sometimes think "dominance" is a little too strong of a word) Sometimes I think they might just be playing. But, at any rate, I would just stop playing the minute the dog does this to you, put her down on the floor and say, "playtime is over." LOL. I don't think it's too big a deal, but at the same time, would discourage that when it comes to people. I don't like to put a dog on it's back unless you're playing....some dogs (not all) construe this as putting them on the defensive and that's not always a safe option with a lot of dogs. You can show that you're in charge in other ways; making your pup do some skill in order to earn her dinner, a treat, a toy, to go outside for a walk...just a little obedience stuff should be enough to let her know that you are the leader.

I got my dog spayed will she still try and hump things? Our male dog has never tried to hump anything and he was neutered at 10 months. At our house the corgis know who the boss is.

Yes, she might still hump. My Chihuahua girl is about 5 yrs. old and was spayed when she was 7 months old and she humps Jose, my boy Chi. He sometimes humps her. It's when they're playing cowboys and indians. They're best of friends and they like taking turns playing who's the boss. LOL. But don't let your dog do that to humans. Some do it and some don't. If the dog is doing that to you, do some more of that "earn the goodies first" routine.

Some female dogs just do this. I had a dog who used to hump her doggy bed before falling asleep at night when she was a puppy. She also would occaisionally hump other inanimate objects (blankets, shoes, the cordless phone..).
The vet told me to ignore it and she eventually just outgrew it when she was about 2.
