4 month old Puppy Mounting 11 month old
My sister has a 4-month old Golden Retriever. He is recently neutered, but whenever he is around my 11-month old American Bulldog, the Golden is constantly mounting my dog. And he's not just mounting - he's trying to hump him. My Bulldog just tries to move away.
Can this be something more than just trying to display dominance? When they play otherwise, they both try to exhibit dominance by pinning, biting the ears, etc. Not sure if we should be worried? |

my male also mounts my female he isnt fixed and she was just spayed so there are no accidental pregnancies... it is dominancy.. and that means he is probably the more dominant one in the house... it isnt a problem that i know of... nuetered and doing it shows major dominance

Well it is definately not a sexual reason then, so I would go with dominance. At his age he will definately be starting to show his growing maturity and trying to find his way as to who will be top dog, even just on visits. I would definately start some sort of correction to the behaviour. Everytime he does it, make him sit then offer a reward, either a treat or praise. |

yep, my amlet humps everything, he had a special stuffed animal for that, but i took it away...i think he misses it. my dog must be submissive because he didn't try and hump my parents little female toy fox terrier, but my leg of course is fair game!

humping is not a sexual behavior unless you are mating your dogs.... what you are seeing is a dominance behavior and it needs to stop. I would not hit but I would scold your puppy for doing that. I would also start having your daughter feed your puppy and do some basic obedience with him. Let your puppy know that your daughter is higher in the pack order than he is. Your puppy is trying to determine where he stands in the pack order and right now he feels as though he is higher than your daughter.
I can tell you that my dogs do hump each other.... With five dogs we have a clear pack and its interesting to watch the dynamic.... my dominant female Meghan will hump everyone (dogs never people) for a variety of reasons to let them know she is in charge. NOBODY humps Meghan. Kaelyn the next female in line and the rule maker in the house humps everyone except Meghan..... Connor the top male humps Cuinn the lower male..... Shalva the 15 mos old female puppy humps Cuinn the lower male.... Cuinn has been seen trying to hump the cat.... its really quite sad. by having your daughter do obedience and control the food as well as letting the puppy in and out it sends a clear message to the puppy that she is in charge. I would however also do a quick EHHHH EHHHHH loudly when your puppy goes to hump your daughter. This is a behavioral issue.... my intact males will not hump people because they have been taught not to..... I dont care what they do to each other...... good luck S |

Hey Chi was just spayed too :-) How is Tasneems recovery going? I was so worried about Chi, especially her first night, poor baby, even with pain meds it was obvious she was uncomfortable. But now 2 days later she's back to her old bouncy self... Am actually keeping her on the leash all the time so she won't bounce her internal stitches out! |
