Loves going in the house...

My 4 mos. old mini daschund, Mini, pees in the house in the same 2 spots all of the time. Is there any way that I can discourage this? We take her outside to go potty ALL THE TIME and sometimes she'll go... and other times she'll spend like an hour outside, not pee, and then come inside to pee. AARG!

Try putting newspaper where she pees. At least it won't get on the floor. If she does go on that you could try shifting it gradually towards the door until it ends up outside. Sorry. I don't know whether it'll help, but it'll have to do.

I have the same problem with Gizmo. He loves to go to the bathroom inside, but the outside is scary for him so he holds it until he gets inside again.

I was told to try and make the outside fun for him, give him treats and whatnot to reinforce that going outdoors is good. Someone else mentioned to use the puppy pads and keep moving it closer and closer to the door until they get the idea and go outside, although not too many people on here like the puppy pads from what I've read.

I hope Mini gets the idea soon!

hi, make sure you clean up minis pee really well. If they can smell them selves any where in the house you will find that they will continue to mark there. its best to use warm water when cleaning the initial mess up, its something in cold water that makes the enzymes soak in quicker. there are products available over the counter that are made for cleaning up potty areas to get rid of all thier scent.
good luck

Natures Miracle is the best ever for getting out stains and odor. I personally like the idea of useing wee-wee pads. My little Yorkies are not going to go outside when it rains and neither will I. Also I don't crate. Instead, if I have to go to the groc. store, dentist, Dr. or somewhere else that I can't take them, then they stay in the kitchen dining area with wee-wee pads, beds toys food and water and a large comforter by the slider. I don't have to worry about them needing to potty or where they will go potty. They always go on the wee-wee pad. When I'm home they go to the door when they want to go outside to potty. It all works perfectly at my house.

so far amlet goes around the puppy pads...i have no idea what his deal is...so i'm not too happy with the pads now, even though i really wish i was...
and when he does go around the puppy pads...i use nature's miracle spray. it's good stuff. the only problem is, he doesn't care where i spray, he never goes in the same spot anyway

A problem with the pads is that sometimes the puppy will stand on the pad, but his back end isn't exactly on the pad, so you get the mess right beside the pad.

From what I've read, keep placing your puppy on the pad after he has his accident, and it'll reinforce the idea that he's to go ON the pad.

Also make sure the pads have the attractant in them, it'll cue the puppy to go on them. Hope that helps! I'm by no means an expert, I'm just learning too!
