funny thing, anyone's pup fight it's food?

i'm just curious to see if my pup is just unusually spunky. amlet fights his food. everything we give him. when we give him a treat, he throws it around, jumps up and down all over it, claws at it, the works. and its not just sometimes...it's always. he picks up pieces of his kibble and brings them on the floor to fight them. he rarely just eats anything we give him. it's cute, but it gets annoying when it takes him twenty minutes to win the battle with a small piece of apple. he must have a great imagination or something. anyone else seen this?

LOL

Yes!!!!

Angel fights everything as well! Giver her a carrot and she's dashed accross the house, pounding it and tossing it around , taking small bites out of it every now and then...the only thing she doesnt do this with is her actual food. But it applies to everything else, from treats to toys to things that she wasnt suppose to get her paws on in the first place, like my socks and pants...

Yup. Our pup does it with everything including kibble (why there is so much kibble stuck under our kitchen cupboards). But then she also has an over-evolved hunting mechanism. One wild animal (at least) dies everyday because of her (yesterday, it was a possum and her babies).
Is your dog by any chance a hunting breed/terrier?

yep, he's half rat terrier, the rest pomeranian. he seems to be more like the rat terrier in him. i really would like to see him hunt because i think he's be awesome at it. he hunts his toys. he doesn't get a lot of free roam outside time though. he likes to hunt bugs too. i always jokingly tell my boyfriend that i'd like to just buy feeder mice to let loose for him to hunt. but that would be kinda cruel, and probably not too good for him.

one more thing about the hunting...i've noticed that when he hunts his toys, he goes for the neck. i watch a lot of animal planet, and that is where bigs cats and dogs go for in order to guarantee a kill. i thought it may just be coincidence, but then i thought, why would it be...he's a hunter. i think it's all kinda cool though.

Yep. Cozy (Yorkshire Terrier) tosses her food in the air and kills it before she eats it. Not all the time, but often. She kills anything and everything that moves - leaves, lint, feathers, blades of grass, grasshoppers, butterflies, birds, lizards, rabbits, motorcycles...
