I miss Mocha....he is being neutered

Well, Mocha went to the vet this morning to get neutered. The vet called and said it went well and told me to not visit him (when I asked if I could today) but just pick him up tomorrow. He said that Mocha might feel abandoned if I came to visit him and didn't take him home. Said it would be better this way. Went with laser surgery as they said this was the newest thing and better surgery than the old way.

I sure do miss him though. Guess the little guy has really wormed his way into my heart.

Also, Mocha has all of his adult teeth in....vet still thinks that Mocha is only about 6 months old. Anyone have other thoughts on that?

What can I do to help the little guy when he gets home? I hope he won't be hurting too much.

Always hard to leave them! I've never left mine overnight though. I drop off at 7:30, pick up anytime after 2:30 that afternoon. Mine were just moving a little slow.. a bit ouchy, but back in good spirits and rearing to play the next day.

Try not to worry much. Recovery is QUICK. Piece of cake.

I wish I could have picked him up today. I wonder if it's really necessary to keep him overnight? I just thought that was standard procedure. I dropped him off at 7 a.m. this morning and he was already done with surgery by 10:30 a.m.......sometimes I wonder if all the things they recommend are really necessary too...seems like they like to tack on all sorts of things to raise the bill!

Sorry you miss your little guy... I'm SO not looking forward to the day Winston undergoes this procedure. I was in the vet's waiting room one afternoon when all the spay/neuters were going home and I just wanted to hug my little puppy.

I'm sure Mocha will be so happy to see you that it will make up for missing you tonight.

I know exactly how you feel. Cozy recently went through 2 surgeries 6 weeks apart. Even though I had left her overnight for spay surgery and then the first knee surgery, it wasn't any easier to leave her for the second surgery. But Kade is right. He will be so happy to see you and you him, that you will forget about tonight!

aww, i'm so sad, amlet is going in to get neutered tomorow morning. i'm gonna miss him too. he gets so upset when i leave him...i feel soooo bad. plus, tonight he's been in his crate all night cause he won't pee outside. i feel bad that he can't just run around and play, but he just won't get this outside thing. anyway, i wish i didn't have to drop him off overnight too, but i'm kinda glad that I don't have to worry about him the first night. i dont think i'd get any sleep.

Sorry you miss little mocha. I'm surprised, with the laser surgery, that the vet is keeping him overnight. I dropped lucy off at 7:30 and picked her up the same day at 4:00. They said that because of the laser they didn't need to keep her overnight unless there was something concerning. ? Sure it's just comfortable standard procedure for your vet. He'll be very happy to see you tomorrow, and he won't hold a grudge!

iloveamlet, I hope amlet is doing well. It was hard to have Mocha away for a night, but he is doing fine at home now. I'm going to post about his return home later.

Jami, I'm beginning to wonder about my vet.....they convinced me to do the laser surgery saying it was better for the dog, but the recovery is longer the tech said....what gives? She said that the laser surgery is more precise and the dog is in less pain but has more restrictions and has external stitches that need to be removed. Personally I'm a little miffed at the whole thing. I think they are just trying to make more money. I'm thinking about switching vets.

Sharona....
I don't quite get what your vet is saying...her is what my vet said:

Laser surgery makes surgery easier for the doctors and the dog. For the doctor it is more precise. Because it coterizes (spelling) as they cut, it REDUCES healing time for the dog.

Lucy had internal stitches, personally I think this may be more a prefrence of the vet than dependent upon the type of surgery. Also, it may be different between males and females.... I know with Lucy they said that they had to place something under the skin behind the stitches and that many dogs have a slight reaction to that which causes the need for antibiotics. The vet said it is just impossible to tell which dogs will react and which wont, so he always uses it. Lucy showed some signs of reaction, but she was already on antibiotics for something else, so it wasn't a concern.

If you aren't satisfied with your vet you should definately change. This vet clinic that I'm going to now I really like - all the people are great and they are really fair on payments - I've had two follow-up appointments that they didn't charge me for (I was only there for half a second... ).

I would never leave a dog overnight unless there was nightly supervision at your vets kennel. I'm setting up a spay appoint. for my girl, and I am going to a new vet just for that reason. Lexus is better off at home where if something goes wrong I can rush her to the emergency vets, rather than her chewing through her stitches or something else terrible like that and then sitting till morning. Or even if she vomits or something and then has to sit in it all night.

My current vet wouldn't budge on it, so I asked for all my animals records and that was that. I wasn't super happy with them anyway, so this just gave me another reason. They are staffed with like 5 vets and there prices are too high, and they push EVERY extra they can to make another buck.

The new vet I'm going to, is letting me bring her home.
