Jogging with Chocolate lab

Does anyone know if it is good to jog with a chocolate lab? I will like to take my dog jogging with me but I don't want to do anything that will hurt him.

How old is he? How far do you jog?

I don't know alot about lab development, but my vet has said that with large dogs it is best to wait at least a year until you "road jog" with them. The routine movement on the hard road can be bad for joints and hips.

That said I do jog sometimes with Jasmine on hiking paths, which are not so hard. We might jog for 10 minutes, walk for five, jog for 15, walk for 20. She seems to do ok with that.

If your dog is over a year, I would think it would be ok, but you could call your vet. The other thing to remember is if you jog alot you will have to "back off" until your dog gets in as good of shape as you are.

I used to jog 2 miles with my other dog, drop her off at home, and then finish my jog. She was never able to go more than two miles, but then rotties are really "running" breeds I don't think.

I would say 18 mos. I put it in my contract that they can't jog or do heavy excercise with their puppy until 18 mos. of age, if they do they void the health guarantee.....

I would wait until at least 18 mos. just to be safe.

our dog is 7 months, and I was going to jog on the street. I guess I won't do it since I don't want him to have joint problems. I will just keep walking with him. Thank you for the reply
