My little boy may be all grown up!

Okay...I'm really excited and just a little disbelieving....but Mocha has spent the last 2 days completely unrestrained or crated!

It started 2 nights ago.....I allowed Mocha to roam free at night and he did fine and well, he did great two nights in a row where he waiting until morning to go potty. Yesterday my partner was home sick and Mocha was not crated and had no accidents.

Then I decided today to take a chance since he had been doing so well....and allowed him to stay home with Mishka outside of his crate and I came home to a clean, accident free house! And that was for at least 8 hours!

I don't know if this means he is completely potty-trained, but he did hold it until I came home and of course he was terribly excited to be let out when I got home.

I'm so proud of him!!!! And this is despite the fact that he still doesn't ring that darn bell to be let out! But I don't care now!

Wonderful news! Sounds like he is for sure going in the right direction, just don't get too disappointed if you get a set back, those things can happen but he has shown you that he is learning well and soon will have it down to a science!

Oh yes, I am definitely prepared for a setback should it happen. I was actually very surprised that he was so good today. But I just had to brag on him a little since he hasn't been the easiest puppy to housebreak and I'm not saying his fully housebroken (as I don't allow myself to fully believe it), but it's nice to know that he is improving.

LOL, yes it is personal.....well, it's just that so many of the wonderful pups here on the forum have totally gotten the bell and are doing such a great job ringing it consistently that I was getting really discouraged that Mocha wasn't catching on. I'm not giving up on that bell, but I'm happy to know that Mocha can still be housebroken without ringing it!

I took Mocha to Petsmart and got him some goodies for being a good boy and well, I think I had more fun than him....here he is with his new sweater and toy...

Way to go Mocha! I wouldn't dare do leave Lucy home while I'm at work, not yet anyways! That picture is too cute by the way!

Woo hoo! Congrats on a job well taught. Mocha is really growing up. I always liked the idea of a bell and started to show the dogs, but didn't really keep up on it...and so they didn't learn that way. Lyric whines to go out and the Chi's come and get me and just sort of tell me. LOL. But mostly I just offer to let them out every few hours. They're all grown up now.

Yay....Mocha made another day without having being crated!!! He did really well...no accidents!

LOL...Carrie, you know....as a friend of mine said, Mocha has ME trained....he has me trained to know when I'm supposed to take him out! I'm going to try the bell again, but basically I just let Mocha out every so often although he continues to tell me by sitting at the door quietly. I basically know his potty schedule and stick to it....if I don't, I'm afraid he'll mess up, but for him to hold it for 8 hours or more during the workday is pretty cool.

Yay Mocha!

about the bell, what ever works, you know? I wouldn't worry too much if the two of you are effectively communicating about going out, then you should be fine even if he never learns to ring the bell! Sounds like he is doing wonderfully! I wish I had the courage to leave lucy out... Did you try short time periods first?

Personally I think Lucy would do fine...

Well....to be honest, I really kind of just jumped without looking because I was really discouraged that Mocha wasn't getting the bell and he was not really consistent with his potty training at times. It all started with letting him off the leash at night and he did so well with that for 2 nights in a row that I started to wonder if he might do okay at home. We did leave him at home for say 1-2 hours before and he did okay too. Then my partner had a sick day and was mostly sleeping and Mocha didn't get crated that day and didn't have an accident...he mostly slept during the day. So after that, I just decided to go for it....and he did great. And has continued to do great for the last few days.

So to answer your question, yes, I did leave him out for shorter periods of time before going cold turkey.
