Angel's getting spayed

Hi Everyone!

Angel is almost 7 months and she's getting spayed on thursday (nov 3rd).

She has not experienced her first heat cycle yet.

I have read and am aware of the many benefits and disadvantages of this procedure.

Honestly, I am scared...because spaying was not my decision, but my mother's, as ultimately she is the one that makes the decisions for the vet stuff.

I dont want to get into a debate, but i would like to know what to expect...

she is a SUPER HYPER HAPPY puppy...she is one of the most hyper dogs on the planet...and i love this about her...what will change? will she resent us?

Thanks!

A_P

I don't think you'll notice a thing. She just needs to be kept from jumping and running hard for about 10 days or so. She'll be just fine.

She'll be the same active happy dog she's always been.. it is often hard to keep them quiet for the few days afterwards.. but all will be well in no time.. I doubt you'd know the difference. Try not to worry too much.

All pugs here are neutered/spayed.. the youngest is the female that was spayed at six months.. she's now 8-9 months I guess.. and WOW, is she a terror. She recuperated FAST, and hasn't missed a step since.. she's the little spit-fire of the group LOL

Thanks...it got postponed until friday...

I'm just wondering if she's going to be traumatized, b/c it's not like she knows it's for her own "good" or safety...

my bf told me that when their dog got spayed she was never the same...I hope this isnt the case with Angel...

as for the healing, where should she sleep? because with that lamp shade thing around her head she wont fit in her crate...so should she sleep with one of us?

All she'll know is she's in a strange place, goes to sleep and wakes up sore. I'm not sure what you should do is she has an E collar on... none of my pugs ever wore one after their spay/neuters. They never bothered the incision (which is TINY.. unbelievable these days how small it is).

I wouldn't worry about her being resentful or upset.... I would guess she will be a happy puppy the same as before.... she won't understand initially but once she is feeling better she wont give it a second thought.... just keep her from jumping, a spay is a major surgery.... and while the majority of dogs recuperate quickly, it is still a big surgery... I woudl just keep things as normal as possible as she will be back to her old self in no time.

She'll be fine. My sister's dog was just like yours. Hyper, hyper, hyper. LOL She was spayed at around 6mths and it didn't change her a bit. The only thing that's slowed her down is old age.

Cass.

What are the chances that she doesnt make it?

It seems to be worrying us all, her being a tiny dog and all (she's 10lbs)

angel there is always a danger with any surgery.... but just think of how many dogs are spayed on a daily basis and how many of them do you hear of dying while being spayed..... almost none....
dont make yourself crazy...... you have a good vet.... and a healthy dog....you have to trust your vet.....
I would make a bet that she will be just fine.

Sorry for sounding so paranoid, I just love my puppy so much.

You're right though, we have an amazing vet, best in the city. And the fact that's it's a hospital for animals and not a private clinic makes me feel better about it, since there is always someone there 24/7 (she's staying there overnight, I'm guessing this is normal, for monitoring).

thank you so much for all your responses!
