do puppies shed?

I have been thinking that, since my puppy's mom was a poodle, she may not shed. What her dad was is still a question mark - she was an accident - but we're pretty sure he was either a lab or a border collie. If she were going to shed, would she have started already? She's almost 12 weeks old. Probably seems like a dumb question but I'm having trouble finding a good groomer (I've had lots of recomendations of who NOT to go to) and am starting to kind of hope she won't need one after all. I can manage bathing, nails and paw fur as I already do that much with my other dog. So what do you think. When will we know if she's going to be a big shedder or if she'll need hair cuts?

At 12 weeks old, you probably aren't giong to notice any major shedding yet. Only time will tell for sure exactly who's genes have prevailed in the shedding game, be it poodle (non shedder) or possible lab (SHEDDER!).

You will probably be able to tell more at about 6-8 months. (-ish) That's about when my dobe started shedding a little.

I have a 13 week old Australian Shepherd and these dogs are known for immense shedding. My pup has only just starting dropping some hair, albeit very little. I think you have to wait until they are 6 months old to know for certain.
