toys?

Ok, So Wesley has been really good about NOT destroying his toys, but now all of a sudden he has decided to rip them all apart into little pieces! He is a Lab and 8 months old. Is there any kind of toy that I could get him that is "indestructible" but still fun to play with? He LOVES squeaky stuffed animals the best. He does have a Kong but has already half ruined it and won't play with it unless their is food in it...Is there anything that I could get him that he would like and would not ruin in ten minutes? Thanks!

PetEdge has nyla-bone keys on a ring, like the one Kade's King Charles has in the avitar. Mine really like them. Also nyla bones are good. You may have to take all the stuffed ones away and ONLY leave out the ones that are for chewing on that are tough. A good knuckle bone (raw but remove all the fat) is a wonderful treat for chewing on outside.

I use the rope toys. The little ones though. Somehow Marley manages to rip up the big ones. The most he does is rip out the ends. But im getting the impression that Wesley is much more destructive. Does he like balls. Maybe try a baseball or basketball.

I would be careful with the rope toys, if they tear them and swallow the individual strings, it can cause huge issues in the GI tract.

annie-

We have two dogs that wrestle over toys like their lives depended on it. Chili, in particular, will destroy toys in order to find the gold prize- those silly plastic squeakers. I can't tell you the number of times I have had to run around the entire house picking up stuffing.

So, last year we went to our local dog store and saw this toy that had a lifetime guarantee. I picked it up and showed my husband and we both laughed and went "yeah, right!". The toy maker promised that if it was destroyed, they would send a free replacement. We thought, well $10 investment and we can get a new toy every month. Hmm, ok.

So, we brought it home and a year +2 months later, the toy is still going strong . It is still Chili's number one toy. We just go "get your star" and he will hunt everywhere for it. Now, it has faded slightly, but it is still intact, not worn. Not a thread has come off this toy.

Why I love it? It's soft, it squeaks (Chili's fav), and it doesn't get smelly dirty (you won't mind it laying around when your in-laws are over). Our dogs kind of like the kongs, but they can't wrestle with them. They want to be able to sink their teeth into a toy when they wrestle, and this toy delivers. They will rip this toy from each other's mouth, yet a few minutes after they finish, the marks from their teeth just disappear from the fabric. Cool!

Hope this helps! Best of luck finding your own indestructible toy

Yup, I just bought the star and bone shaped bamboo toys today. My mini dachshund, Lucy, got through the star shaped on in about 5 minutes. I'm definetly taking it back. I think it depends on how the dog likes to chew. My dogs go in for the kill so pretty much any soft toy is toast. They like thier nylabones for hard chewing and the kong for playing fetch. My dogs like to defuzz everything so tennis balls and soft toys are definetly out unless I want to be picking up stuffing or green fuzz all over the house. Bailey's favorite toy is called a Zap Ball. It has a blinking light in it so we can play fetch at night. She also loves her Cuz ball...I hate her Cuz ball.

You're kidding! Wow, I wonder if their quality control isn't the greatest? Ours hasn't shredded at all. So, are you going to ask for a replacement? Just curious how their customer service is.

Sorry it didn't work for you guys!

This toy really is high quality and is made of thick canvas and has triple stitching and piping all the way around it. My dogs are just hard core chewers, that's all.
I won't ask for a replacement. I will take it back to the store and show them the toy, they can see my reciept and know it happened in less than a day. They told me my dogs would never be able to get through it or they would give me my money back. I might as well try and see if they stand true to their word..the toys cost me almost 30 dollars. My dogs get really upset when I have to take the toys away so I won't get a replacement. Bailey knows the toys are in a bag on the front porch and she is crying at the door right now.

LOL. My dogs are all hard, destructive chewers too, including the itsy bitsy Chihuahua girl. They tear anything to smitherines. All they can have is a Kong or a Nyla bone. That's it.

If you do get a Kong, get the black large one. It's tougher than the red one. They also sell boxes different flavored Kong treats to stuff them with. Just make sure the treat is for the size Kong you get.

I've seen those treats that you can put inside the kongs, but never bought them because it just doesn't seem like it's healthy for the puppy. There's lots of homemade Kong recipies as well, if you're not into the processed stuff.

Who knows? It could be really good for them, but for some reason, it just doesn't sit right with me, lol!
