Brittany!
Does anyone have any experience with Brittanies?
I have a Brittany named Buck. He just turned 5 today (happy bday Buck!) and I was wondering if anyone else had or knew any Brittanys! |

HI,
I wish I could be of more help, but I've never had a Brit myself, although I've known a few and have held a few at shows recently and seen a couple hunt over the last few months. They're smaller, yet they seem to make up for it in energy. They seem to be pretty good hunters, and pretty bird focused, which in home life translates to a need to keep them and other non-dog pets supervised at all times. To me they seem a little more stubborn then the breed of choice for myself, the Weim, and Weims can be awfully hard-headed. This is what the AKC has to say about the Brittany (taken in part from http://www.akc.org/breeds/brittany/index.cfm): Quote:

When I 1st starting dating my hubby years ago his family had a Brittany. Timmy was a great dog!
A very close friend of mine had 3 French Brittany's. Over the past couple of years she has lost 2 of them to old age. Another friend of hers also has one. I can remember renting a cabin during the summer with the 4 French Brittany's and their 3 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. The brittany's were definitely the comedians of the group and kept us in stitches. |

My sister had one who was so spoiled by her husband that nobody else could please him. He sadly died at age 4 due to an aneurism. I have 2 clients with them, both late puppy stage. The biggest problem is keeping them in the double wired underground fence, and getting them enough exercise. The 2 of them could get on a treadmill and power the city. They are happiest when they can use their honed hunting instincts, they seem to get frustrated being just pets. Yours is a looker. Best wishes to you and him.

I also heard that GSP's are not happy unless they are doing a job. And I have to say it realy made me think and I looked into getting Ava in some things. Still stands that she gets to go to the park every morning but not in rain and she will go and point and track. Then she will want me to throw the tennis ball around. Then she goes for a long walk when danny gets home from work. Then she goes back to the park when I get home to play with the dogs. But at the end of the day when we are starting to unwind and here she is laying with her head on my leg and you hear that sigh all dogs make when they are content
. I think oh man a life and a day of a dog. Did I quote that right LMAO. But she definately has to be doing something or that won't be good. I can see your point dogma but I wonder if their where Brittany owners who did not hunt them and did outdoor activities with them if they where happy? I am going on and on sorry LOL was hoping my boss will let me leave early. |
