Where ??

Ok, this may be the wrong place for this(so feel free to put it where it belongs) but I though with it involving field training it may fit. Anyway I would love to know how I can get my hands on either some Pheasants, Ducks, or Quail (frozen birds, dried wings, or feathers)... I have looked in Gun Dog and in WildFowler mags. and only come up with one game breeder. With them you have to buy a min of 4 frozen Mallards. I haven't yet looked on line but though some one may know... Novel if you could help me out I would appreciate it a ton !

Reason... Well I'm going to start some serious field training with our Labby gang soon(fall is here). I'm even sending out an order for 3 training movies and 2 training books to help me get ready. I've got a 30' lead, a 1' and 2' training lead and a nice place to start. I just have a few more things to get and I'm ready(whistle, more dummies, scent, etc)... But I also need some thing "Bird".. Scent yes, but I want the real thing. .. Is there any way to find a game breeder close to me and would putting up posters be ok ??

Check out this retriever training fourm: http://www.retrievertraining.net

I know people have posted looking for ducks (both dead and alive)check out either the main forum or the classified section. It has a lot of good FT and HT info on it. Which books and videos did you get?

Sorry, didn't see this thread until today...
Although you'll be retrieving mostly ducks, you may want to start with phesant or chukar. They don't taste as bad.
Game farms are almost always where you pick them up. Call your local NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) group. They will know where to get the best birds (all birds are not raised the same). www.navhda.org will list all the chapters and how to get ahold of them. Although they train pointing, retrieve, etc. they still would be a good resource for when you have questions.
The retriever forum that was suggested is good and also has alot of good info.
There is also www.refugeforums.com which has some good info as well.

I usually get my birds from my NAVHDA group, a game farm, or buy the leftovers from the clubs after a competition. You can house them pretty easily, many just use an old dog crate.
