Exclamation Weimaraners (refined or big boned)

Hey, well I was just wondering who likes those skinney, refined, small boned, ugly weims or who likes those big boned, not refined weims (like novels dog, topper) They are breeding the instinct and the good looks out of the weimaraner!!! I like they way they are supposed to look skinney but not to skinney, not refined and the ones that have those big o' funky looking long noses and those weird looking faces. that just takes the beauty out of the weimaraner. (Novels dog Topper is a good example of a good looking weimaraner in my book!!)

I like doggie dogs and bitchy bitches. A boy should look like a boy and vise versa. One of the reasons I met Novel is because I wanted to see how the weims were looking now a days and to my pleasant suprise most of the show dogs looked good. Now I fell in love with Topper that day which lead me to the journey I am on with Novel and the knowledge that I've learned about the breed since then. If you get a chance you should go to the National this year in May. LOTS of good looking weims!

I agree with wehkah, a dog should be heavier boned, thicker and have some substance compared to a bitch. They should look masculine. A bitch should look feminine.
Topper is a pretty good representation of the breed, and I personally love him, but... well, I'm a bit biased. There are some things I would improve in him, and hope to do so in subsequent generations.
However, the breed is supposed to look aristocratic, more stylish and sleek than a labrador, but not to whippet extreme either. The standard says:
Quote:
A medium-sized gray dog, with fine aristocratic features. He should present a picture of grace, speed, stamina, alertness and balance. Above all, the dog's conformation must indicate the ability to work with great speed and endurance in the field.
And also:
Quote:
Major Faults--Doggy bitches. Bitchy dogs.
Yes, I have seen some bad representatives in the ring, honestly, unless you've seen my Laney, you have no idea how out of standard a dog can be, but even she has her good points.

I guess with time, I have decided that I would just like to see Weimaraners that fit the whole standard, which includes words and phrases like "balance", "alert", "the dog's conformation must indicate the ability to work with great speed and endurance in the field", "The gait should be effortless and should indicate smooth coordination". In all truth, I believe that Weims really should be good sporting dogs, and it's sad to see how few really are. It's something that is being bred out of them, and who knows what else is going along with it.

I love that description!

I also have a key chain that says:
A study in grace, speed, stamina & endurance, used by bird hunters; friendly, playful & energetic, love children

I love labs, german short hairs and the like but the reasons I chose the weim is because the breed seems to combine all the traits I like all in one. Energetic when you need them to be or couch potatoes when I'm not so energetic. Lovable, loyal and a part of the family. Short hair for less maintanance. Smart and cute at the same time!

Weimgirl, I really can't see the dog in the picture. Is it a bitch or dog? It would have to be larger before I could make any decision as to what's body frame or conformation is like.

Whats the difference??? I mean between refined/big bones wiems???
Anyone have pics?

This breed is not common AT ALL in Newfoundland.I have seen 2 in person my whole life. One a few years ago and one this month at "Pooches in the park".They looked good to me.But again,I am not too familar with the breed.

Here is my boy at 2 yoa, he is pretty medium in build.

Here are some dogs in rescue....

A bigger boned bitch:

Here's one that is a good frame, but he's way way over standard...

Another big framed bitch in rescue

Here is a more refined looking blue, maybe overly so:

I prefer the moderate build, the larger, thicker build was popular for a bit, and resembles more of the original German dog, but, the trend has definitely been to breed a very artisocratic, refined looking Weim.

P.S. his name is Topper, "Yoa" was supposed to be years of age. My bad for using a little used abbreviation.

Yes, Topper is of moderate build. He's not as heavy in bone as some I've seen. And he has the characteristics of a dog, not bitchy at all, but still has some refinement, exactly what I prefer.

It's almost midnight here, and I really need to pack it up for the evening.
