I have been searching for the right breed and the right opportunity for about a year now and finally had the chance to save two dogs

I was thinking of getting a dobie and was involved in a volunteer program house sitting dogs when I found out about two inseparable male wiems that needed on home.

Well long story short I was shopping for a dobie and now have two wiems.

I have never owned two dogs at once before and was wondering if anyone has any advise

Any advise at all would be helpful as it has been a few years since I have owned my own dog and not just a babysitter.

Congratulations on your new pups, I bet they're adorable! I love Weimaraners. Is there anything in particular that you would like some advice on? Once you have two dogs you'll never be able to go back to just one!

I guess training most of all . . . it seems as if they feed of each others energy.
I can separate the two and get them both to learn something but then when i get them back together they have a hard time with what they learned.

I do a lot of biking and that has been a chore with two dogs as well. Think I may have to stick with roller-blading.

Also, quick crate question: I want to crate train both the pups and have two separate med. sized crates. The problem is I am gone about 4-6 hrs during the day. I work ten hour days but am able to come home for 45 min lunch to take the dogs out. Should I be using two small seperate kennels in the basement or just keep up with the crate training????

Bless you for giving these guys a home together. The only other thing that comes to mind about two dogs at once is that maybe they will be closer to each other than they would be to you. You may have to keep them apart during training.

First of all... thank you for rescuing a Weimaraner (or two). What was their story?

How old are the dogs?

Knowing some background (ages, previous home situation, etc.) will help us help you help the dogs...LOL ONE Weim can be a handful for most people, and two is certainly a chore (if they are typical Weims, that is). I have had 5 of my own Weims, and many, many rescue fosters - and yet my youngest girl is running me ragged. Ha ha! I would *definitely* recommend obedience classes - and take each dog to a separate class, NOT together. This will help you bond with each dog, as well as each dog not being able to lean on the other dog during lessons, so they will be able to absorb more. They may be distracted by the other dogs in the class, the people, the surroundings, etc (as any dog might), but these things can be overcome much more easily than the dogs being distracted by each other and ignoring the training sessions, as they've learned to rely on each other to the exclusion of the outside world - reinforcing bad habits. Once you get them started on separate training schedules and they have a good, solid understanding of how this obedience thing works, you can start to work with them together, making sure you still keep those sessions under control.
