Labs

Hi, I took my puppy to the dog park the other day and some people said that there were 4 different kinds of labs. Is that true? Like I think they said one of them was a "field" lab, what is that? Also, I was reading on a lab site that a purebred lab could have a white spot on its chest, is that true? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just doing some research.

There are 4 different kinds of Retrievers, but not Labs

They are: Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Chesapeak Bay Retriever and the Curly Coated Retriever. You should be able to get there breed profiles on the AKC or KC websites or on plenty of othe good websites.

It is possible that they could have a white spot on their chest but i have never really noticed, my uncle breed Larbrador Retrievers and he is a reputable breeder and produces quality puppies with superb temperments but i have never really noticed whether they have a white spot underneath i'll have too check next time im around there (when they have puppies).

Hope this helps

I can think of these types...

English type, which is a square-faced, thick, heavy-set dog with a distinct otter tail

the American type which is, taller, thinner dog with a longer face;

and the field trial type, a dog bred for working ability alone that can be either type,

Our puppy is an English yellow lab. We really liked the look of the stocky, broader face and shoulders and the shorter stature they have.

I agree with you. I love the english lab look (not that I don't like the american or field lab )

Well i was wrong , i had never heard of that breed of Nova Soctia Duck Tolling Retreivers before i looked them up and they seem a nice breed, you think you know everything until you find something new.

Actually, there are different types of labradors.

Labs can have white on their chest, it's allowed. My baby has a perfect little white arrow on her chest.

Where are you getting her from? Seven weeks is a little too young to get a puppy at....and two puppies? Wow you're gonna have your hands full LOL !!

I know, its a bit crazy. She will be 8 weeks today. We got her from a well known English Lab breeder in the area. I took her to the vet today for a checkup and everything is great We wanted them to be as close in age as possible, and since we are still in "puppy mode", we figured we mind as well get her now since we're used to potty training and getting up during the night....

She is so cute though and sure warming up to Buddy. They are going to be the best of buds.

Ill post pics as soon as I get an extra minute to load them.

We still haven't settled on a name yet though, I like Lilly and Aaron likes Abbey/Abby..... this name stuff is kicking my butt lol

Aren't labs great? We have a 5 month old yellow male, and a 20 month old black male. They get along great.

I researched every dog breed I could find that would be suitable as a family dog and great with children. I finally narrowed it down to a Lab.....it's the best decision I ever made. I tell people jokingly that she's my favorite child because she sleeps in her own bed at night, doesn't wake me, eats everything on her plate and doesn't talk back!!!

By the way my dog's color is "fox red"; hence the name Ruby. I was surprised to see they came in such a bright red color as well. So aside from all the lab breed types mentioned above, we also have more colors.....more to love!
