I would say around 55-60lbs. You want them to look lean as puppies, too much weight put on too quickly will stress those joints. They also recommend keeping the fat content of the labs food at or below 15%. Hope this helps!

Thanks! Wesley is a week away from being 8 months old and he weighs about 49lbs. Is that really small? Or is he just gonna be a smaller dog? He is not very skiny either...just right....

Generally a dog such as a lab grows upwards first, lol...then they begin to fill out around 18 months up. He may be getting a growth spurt soon! Sounds like he is just right though for him. I certainly wouldn't worry at all!

I also have an 8 month old lab. I think I'm driving myself crazy with her weight! My pup, Ruby, is about 56 pounds. Like all other labs, she LOVES food. I try to give her a cup of kibble in the morning and a cup at dinner. I only do a cup because during the day she gets treats (healty treats such as carrots, apples ocassionally some peanutbutter in her kong with kibble and, yes, dog cookies such as mother hubbard brand cut in half). I just hope I'm doing the right thing. A bad habit that I have started is giving her a pig ear every day (oops). However, she does not get any table food except when she steals it right from my kids' plates.

I was at the vet two weeks ago and they said that she looked fine, but I can't help but worry. This dog does get a lot exercise everyday (I make sure of it) so I guess she's burning calories, hopefully.

Buddy will be 7 months old on the 7th of Nov and he weighs 78 lbs. He is not over weight at all, very lean and muscular. He is on Innova LBP.
Abby will be 5 months old on the 5th of Nov and she weighs 36 lbs. She is also on the same food as Buddy.

Wow! Wesley is one of two things- either he is younger than I thought(he was a rescue so that is very possible) or he is a mix(once again he is a rescue so it is very possible) He is 8 months old(according to what I have thought) and weighs just about exactly 50lbs. He is not too skiny or too fat, he is just the right weight....Are yellow labs(that is what Buddy is, right?) and black labs the same size? I am so confused

does ur lab have white markings on its chest? i can't tell from ur avatar. My friend has a girl lab, she is about the same age or a lil older than urs and she weighs about the same, she also has white markings on her chest. I have a 5mo boy, and he weighs about 45-50lbs, and he has no white markings on his chest.

It is hard to put an average on a breed of puppies weight. Their are alot of factors, genetic's, enviorment, excerise, activity level..ect.

Can you feel a small layer of fat covering the ribs?
Can you see the shadow of the last two ribs?
Does the dog have an nice good waistline?

Thats how I go by, If you answer yes to all of the above, your dog is a good weight. IMO.

Its best to have breeds prone to HD not too heavy as puppies...dont want any extra weight stressing those growing bones

Good luck and take care

My lab/shar-pei mix, Mazie, weighed 45 pounds when I weighed her two days ago. She'll be 5 months on Wednesday, too. She's definitely got more lab in her than shar-pei... all the characteristics of a lab, but the loose skin of a shar-pei.. All black except for a white spot on her chest and a white toe on her back-right foot. Judging by what I'm reading, Mazie is going to be quite big.. Can anyone give me an estimate on roughly how big she'll be? Sounds to me like she'll be over 100 pounds... She's definitely getting taller; she comes up to about my knees, maybe a little higher; and I don't think she's had a growth spurt yet..

And I can answer "yes" to all of those questions, crazy_puppy.

yes, Wesley has a little white "tuxedo" mark on his chest, and in between his toes he has little white spots too....
