Member of the Month?

OK, this is sort of similar to Southerngirl's idea of a "Wall of Fame." First of all, we would pick somebody to be in charge of the whole "Member of the Month." Every month, people would private-message their "nominations" to the person in charge. They would nominate somebody whom they thought contributed solid ideas and was a valuable member of Global Paw. Whoever received the most "nominations" would be named Member of the Month.

I'm not sure what we could do about prizes. Maybe there could be a "wall of fame," and the Member of the Month could get some extra reputation points. I'm don't really think those could be classified as "prizes," but, we might not need prizes. I myself would be very excited if I was chosen as the Member of the Month.

And we could set up some rules, too. For example, you couldn't nominate yourself (lol). You couldn't nominate more than one person per month. And people should really, really try not to nominate the same people over and over again.

Just an idea.

It's an interesting idea, I'd like to see what other people think about it. I can make a new user badge for it too.

That sounds cool....might take a while to get it rolling, but I am sure it would grow.

But that's what reputation points are for.

I think recognition would be sufficient.

Rats!!

I'd like to see a "meet a member" area...a member's user profile alphabetically or randomly selected daily. I think the popularity contest feel of a nominated Member of the Month can cause bad feelings.

I agree with Flyn, it could make for hard feelings but maybe a member list that rotates like our dog pictures do so that it changes every month with some info would be a good way of keeping things on an even keel and give everyone a fair shake.

Maybe even send the upcoming member of the next month a little info sheet to fill out? Give them a chance to go into some detail about themselves other than what they have in their profile and ask them to pick out a pick or two of their dogs to add to it? Just throwing some things out there.

flyndog is right. Itll seem a lot like a highschool popularity contest.

the meet the member sounds cool though. but not have people nominate people...ramdomly or alphabeticly select them with no forethought into it

Well....hmmmm.....I don't know. Even though I get on my high horse plenty about my opinion and my way of training or my way of this and that, really, when you really think about it, this board is really more about dogs. So, I guess it wouldn't matter to me if you had some kind of member feature, but I mostly just love talking DOGS. LOL.

Yeah, a meet the member feature sounds like it would be great. I'd just like something to recognize members.

Ditto. If I wanted to talk about myself, I'd go to a different forum for that. LOL.

Things like this have to be thought out. IMO the simpler things are the better they function. If you start introducing point systems, member of the month, public profiles etc you end up building a competitive community. These things cause friction between members and makes new members feel outsiders.

This is simply a dog forum, for it function at its best there should be no competitiveness what so ever. people should be made to feel relaxed and welcome without having to achieve something.

The idea of a forum is to have fun, help others and be helped. It doesn't need any [mod edit- sorry the stars were not enough for me]
