New Forum - Journal Club
We will be starting a Canine Journal Club sub-forum in the future, where we review peer-reviewed journal articles from the science, psychology, biotech and veterinary fields. I was wondering how many people would like to participate and what type of structure you'd prefer.
We can set this up a number of ways...I'm personally used to the traditional journal club in acedemic settings where someone picks 1 recent article of interest and presents it to the group. Then the group discusses the article in length. We can also go more like a Case Review type of discussion, where we pick an issue or disease and collect recent peer-reviewed articles to discuss on that topic. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Kendra |

Here's some info to break the ice.....
I use these 2 tools for searching on a regular basis 1. PubMed Home Instructions for Searching Searching PubMed 2. Google Advanced Scholar Search Searching Tips Google Scholar Here's a sample of peer-reviewed journals I like to cruise: Science/AAAS | Scientific research, news and career information Nature Publishing Group : science journals, jobs, and information JVDI -- Table of Contents (November 1 2007, 19 [6]) JWD -- Table of Contents (October 2007, 43 [4]) ScienceDirect - Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Volume 82, Issues 3-4, Pages 167-328 (14 December 2007) Here are a couple articles on Hemangiopericytoma in Canines to illustrate what types of articles I would pick to review. 1. Treatment of hemangiopericytoma in a dog, using surgical excision, radiation, and a thoracic pedicle skin graft. by Fossum TW, Couto CG, DeHoff WD, Smeak DD. J Am Vet Med Assoc. 1988 Dec 1;193(11):1440-2. 2. Canine hemangiopericytoma: 23 cases (1967-1984). by Graves GM, Bjorling DE, Mahaffey E. J Am Vet Med Assoc. 1988 Jan 1;192(1):99-102. |
