Question A sticky for absolute no-no's

I think it would be helpful if we could post a sticky at the top of the "Dog Health Concerns" forum regarding the things you should never-ever feed your dog. Not opinions, but proven items which can harm or kill your dog, if digested. Some people just don't know about the dangers of cooked bones, chocolate, etc...

It's amazing how many bad situations could be avoided by providing a little basic knowledge to the folks joining the forum. What may be common knowledge for some, might save the life of a first time dog owner's "new best friend".

A very good suggestion and as a matter of fact we've been working on a little something that fits right into that. Stay tuned

Aww man I love azaleas and it would probably take a half a bush to make a dog really sick. Rotodendrons are also on the no no list. If I followed the list if things dangerous to a dog that I have come across I'd have to completely tear out all of my landscaping and plant oat grass or something. As with children, just be aware of what is in your yard and stay vigilant about where they are and what they are doing. I have snow on the mountain, day lilly, asian lilly, verbinum heather, tomato and a host of other plants I simply can't remember right now growing in my yard and Magic has never bothered any of it because I taught her "leave it" when she first came to me.

Of course it's important to tell people to keep their dogs from ingesting antifreeze, raisins, grapes, onions, macadamia nuts and others, but a lot of the outside plants are a stretch.

I tore the azaleas out of the backyard and put them in pots in the front. Baxter had a habit of biting off leaves/branches of plants that were in his path while doing laps in the backyard. Now that he's older he's stopped doing this.

Lily of the Valley is toxic to dogs too! Which I see in a lot of people's gardens!
