Question about

Hello, I have been looking for a good forum about dogs [ I have Jack Russell ] and hope that this forum is the last one I will need. Anyway I have just registered and this is my first post. The question I have tonight is regarding the Bionaire Air filters that I have in my place. I have two of them and am concerned that the sound [ noise ] of the appliance's could pose as a hazzard to my dogs ears because of the continuous sound they produce. Of the two units I have, one is a medium size and the other is small. The medium is a HEPA filter and is kind of loud. The small one is located in my room and I leave it on 24 hours a day. I try and keep the medium Hepa filter on as much as I can, though my dogs kennel is located close to the appliance so I turn it off when I leave the dog at home in his kennel. My place is realitively small [ trailer ] and even when I am wathcing tv with the unit on its lowest setting its still producing constant sound. I have read that its these type of sounds that can be harmfull. I know dogs have such sensitive ears but I like the appliance because of the improved air quaility. Just looking for suggestions.

Anyhelp is good

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Global Paw!

While I have no experience with the Bionaire Air filters I do have something like it ( made by Ecoquest ) and the units are on 24 hours a day. While they do produce a sound it doesn't appear to be one that bothers my dogs in any way. I have nine plus dogs in my home on any given day and have used the air systems for over five years.

Sorry I can't give you more information on your particular air filter but hope this helps ease your mind a bit.

Sorry, I added additional info on their size after you replied. They are fairly large, one of which sits in the kennel / bedroom of my dogs and is less than three feet from their sleeping area.

Yeh I dont know, that could be a little loud. I sometimes forget to turn the unit off when a leave my place, feeling bad because my dog had to listen to the thing for hours while I was gone. I am going to ask my vet about this.

THnks

Actually, my dogs don't seem to notice at all and I think, like me they've just tuned it out but yes asking your vet what he or she thinks would be an excellent idea. When we got our first unit we did the same and our veterinarian felt the dogs were not at risk.

Let us know what your vet has to say.

Welcome, and I am also wondering what a vet thinks. We've all heard studys that say continuous background noise is bad for our human ears, hmm...

I've also read that a constant sound, whether it's loud or soft, can add stress to animals and humans. I don't know. I have no running systems. I suppose if they start showing any signs of stress then you may want to unplug for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.
