Another Question about

I was down at the river last summer with my dog and I also had brought my bike to mess around on. I was in a safe area and therefor had my dog running free from his leash to roam. When I was screwing around on my Mountain bike [ little ways away from my vehicle and dog ] the most disrespectfull kid I know show's up with a few other buddy's of mine. After spotting them I immediately started riding back to the vehicle only to see them throwing my little dog hard and far out into the river [ steep bank ]. Upon getting there my dog had almost made it back to shore and was ok, I couldnt really do much so I didnt. The question I have is about the dogs ears and the impact pressure from the water. I can only hope that this wouldnt damage anything. Anyway a similar incident happened later in the summer with the same kid. Its such a terrible thing to have your old friends abuse your animals, really caused me alot of anger and hurt feelings because I put alot of effort into raising my dog.

Thanks

Why on earth didn't you just tell that idiot that if he EVER did anything to your dog again you would beat the crap out of him and report him for animal cruelty and endangerment? And you should have taken the dog straight to the Vet. for a check-up. Yes, hitting the water like that can cause any number of injuries, like broken bones and internal ruptures. I feel so sorry for your dog that he doesn't have anyone to protect him.

I had a friend (human) who fell water skiing and ruptured his
ear drum and caused a lot of damage to his inner ear. The doctors weren't even sure his hearing would return in that ear. Granted he is human, and was traveling faster than your dog, it is a VERY painful and dangerous ordeal. While I understand the first time it happened you didn't have much control over it, You should have stood up and let that person know that it was unacceptable. There shouldn't have ever been a second time. In my opinion it was animal abuse. If they were just picking on the dog in a playful way it's different, but they put your dog in danger(TWICE). On top of the physical damage, I could only imagine how scared and upset you dog was while being thrown in the water! I am quite disturbed that you didn't take care of it after the first time. No one would EVER do something like that to my dog and live to tell about it.

I will never understand how someone can get any enjoyment out of abusing an innocent animal...it's a blessing your dog was not injured because of that and I would have been very angry as well.
With friends like that who needs enemies! I guess , if it were me and I was worried, I'd pop by the vets and have him check his ears...actually, the whole dog for that matter.

Was back in the summer

Anyway I guess you wouldnt want to know that this same guy beet the **** out of me causing me broken bones in my eye socket as well as my nose and not to mention a serious concussion. I talked to the cops where I used to live after I could open my eyes [ 5 days later ] while I was at the hospital getting a CT scan and they didnt do a damm thing. Anyway my dog was only 1 year old when this happened and was still recovering from the 4 broken ribs that broke when he was only 6 months old. I was running and tripped over him stepping on him hard, you have now idea of what that felt like to me.
I didnt even know what happened to me because the stupid kid is such a back stabber. Trust me you have no idea of how mad I was and still are. I dont think my dog has any injuries.

THnks

The other night I was dowsing off on my couch with all appliances turned off and my dog jumped to alertness and headed to the back of my place with a slight bark, I couldnt here anything but the rain [just started] and it isnt normal for my dog to do this because it rarely barks when adjusted to its surroundings. Anyway after going outside to see if I could hear anything or whatever I discovered that their was water dripping off my place making a strange sound as it fell to the side of the home. Its has rained here alot and this sound was never there before. I guess all I am saying is that the dog must still have really good hearing as I find its aware of abnormal sounds. This dog has also had to put of with me and my loud music as I was only 18 when I got it [ try and be more cautious now ] plus all of the other loud sounds that have been produced while the dog being near. Jacks are a pretty tough little breed for sure.

I would get a restraining order against this "friend" or find a safer home for your dog.

Be careful with that nut around!!! Geesh, some people!!!
As for dogs and sounds, yes, their hearing beats ours by a long shot. I always trust my boy when he barks and check things out...most times he has been right on the "nose" about something not sounding right.
Last week our neighbour house was broken into in broad daylight and she came home with the fella in her bedroom...thank goodness he was more scared of her than she was of him and he ran. So I am grateful now when Shadow goes on alert. We have an alarm system but a dog barking ( I think) tends to discourage alot of them. My boy may be small but he barks like a big dog...but these idots don't know that.

Is there some reason you didn't talk to the police when this first occured? Hospitals are required to report incidents of this kind and would have done so upon your arrival. How old were you when this happened? If it was already five days later before you spoke to them they wouldn't have been able to do much since it becomes your word against someone elses and they should have directed you to your prosecutors office ( no sure what it's called in Canada ) to file civil charges.

As for the dog, really the only way to know for sure if his hearing or anything else for that matter was injured would be to have him checked over by your veterinarian. Dogs can go a long time with damaged ears before it becomes obvious to their owner that there is a problem. Hopefully he is ok though.

So I take my dog in for a hearing test? How could the vet tell otherwise?

Thanks

Yes, get your vet to give your dog a hearing test. Just to be on the safe side.

Just coming in on this, I also have a JRT. I couldn't believe this story, and hope you are able to do something to this idiot. Have you taken him to the vet yet?

By the time I got back, no matter what this guy has done to me before... if he abused my dogs, he would have been in the water or yet even worse. NO ONE abuses my dogs. I don't care how big you are and what you've done to me. They're my babies!

That is such a shame that he did that to you and your dog. What a horrible person. What goes around, comes around... he'll get his soon! He sounds like a guy that needs to grow up and get a life.

And I agree, have you taken your dog to the vet yet? Keep us posted!

Thanks for backing me up

I am pretty sure my dogs ok. I do have a appointment next week for a check up, just to be sure. I was put into a bad situation [ I ve had far too many ] and really couldnt do much. Sure I could have injured the guy or called the animal rights [ think thats what its called here in B.C. ] but it wouldnt change the fact that it had happened and nothing will. My dogs been with me through 3 of my worst years [parts of them were very good ] and I admit to not treating my dog the way I intended when I purchased it. After everything weve been through and all the injuries ETC, I am happy about the way the dog has turned out. I still have a few problems regarding injury and my dog is right on track with me. It's very unfortunate to have these things happen to me, also to my dog. None of this stuff should ever happen to anyone and the worst part is there's nothing I can do about it. I have reloacated to a differnt part of the province and look forward to better things ahead. After all Jack Russells are prone to injury, but you can only hope that they dont happen.

Thanks
