Might get another Jack
Hello. My Male Jack Russell is over 3 years old and is kind of lonely and I feel that getting another dog would be a benifit. The question's I have
1. Does having 1 more Jack really make for more effort? 2. Could I get another male and have them get along? I ve been told from some people that if you have 1 Russell you might as well have 2 of them! Anyhelp is great Thanks alot. ![]() |

Aren't Jack Russells a great breed?
![]() Hmm... I'm sorry I can't offer you much advice with your questions. I just wanted to say that I have a partbred JRT (Harley), but he's practically like a purebred one. If your current dog is very assertive towards you, and tests you a lot then you should expect him to act the same way to your new puppy. Harley has always been a bit dominant and quite protective of the family. We got another dog when he was about 5 or 6 years old and he has always tolerated her well but can be a bit pushy around her (wanting his own way and space). Does your dog interact well with other dogs when you take him for walks and let him play? How does he act around other male dogs? These should be a few good judgements as to how he'll be with the new addition. I'm sure it will be fine. There might have to be allowances for a settling in period as he'll probably need time to adjust to having another dog in the house and not getting all the attention! I'm sure he'll really appreciate having a buddy to run around and play with. They certainly love interaction whether it be with humans or other animals. |

Is the 'friend' still around that threw your dog in the river? If so, I would wait until he's gone before getting another dog.
Does your dog enjoy playing with other dogs? Sometimes it's just easier getting together with a friend who has a dog and letting them play together. |

No the person that caused the incident with my dog and the river is not anywhere near my living area. I would appreciate if you would answer the question I am asking at this time and not reply to my other posts, especially with the negative attitude you have. If i thought people were going to be negative and insulting I wouldn't have posted anything. I take very good care of my animals and dont need a negative attitude from other peeps.
Thanks to everyone else for posting info! |

My Dog is a 3 year old Pure Bred Jack Russell Male [ smooth coat ]. It has an excellent temperament [ its great ] and has good character. It listens well and is enjoyable to be around. It seem's to get along well with other dogs and I feel it would benifit from a companion. I dont think much more maintenance is required to own 1 more LOL
Thanks |

I don't see a problem with getting another Jack. As long as Hunter is neutered (you don't need territorial issues) you should be ok. My boy Max is great, and I've often wondered how he would do with another playmate that was more his size...lol He is so used to the big dogs, I'm not sure how he would react.
Anyway, it sounds like you are providing a good home for Hunter, and I don't think it would be a problem getting him a playmate. Let us know if you do, and POST PICS!! ![]() |

I have a 2y/o shorty JRT and I just adopted a 4mos female JRT. They absolutely love each other! My older dog has even been a little less anxious when I leave the house. I think it was a great decision to get another one, they play all the time which saves me from having to entertain just one all the time. They both sleep in the bed and lay on each other under the covers. They both also love to take showers and have their hair dried with the hair dryer (crazy dogs!)
I also think that my puppy has learned to go outside faster than my first one because she follows him everywhere and watches that he get's a treat if he goes potty outside. I say just do it, the responsibility feels the same. |
