Right Place?

I own a Jack Russell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Russell_Terrier) and it's not on the list as breeds included in the Terrior list, am i meant to post in another forum?

You may post wherever you'd like. You are not forced to post in a specific section because of your breed

JRT's are also known as a Parsons Russel Terrier -- I belive they are not recognized as a JRT by the AKC, but as a PRT. That may be the one listed in the terrier group.

Feel free to post where ever you'd like

The AKC is the American Kennel Club. It is a registry here in the United States for purebred dogs.

It's a bit confusing. Jack Russell Terriers are purebreds. However, they sometimes go under a different name, Parson Russell Terrier. Some people consider the PRT to be a seperate breed from the JRT, though.

Adding on to what Swiftwind said, not all breeds are recognized by the AKC. That doesn't make them a non-breed.
It can mean a great many things besides "not a breed"...recognition under a different name, too new to be anything but "under consideration", the keepers of the breed are actively not seeking recognition, or so rare that it's not considered worth the effort to track by that registry.

Yep, and it's just like with pitbulls

American Pit Bull Terriers are not recognized by the AKC, but they are under a different name -- the American Staffordshire Terrier. APBT's are recognized by the UKC (United Kennel Club).

So you can have a "pitbull" that is dual registered... APBT for UKC and an Am. Staff T for AKC.

Gets kinda confusing sometimes. LOL

You're in the right place! The AKC accepted the JRT in 1997. If you aren't already confused enough, the name of the terrier was changed from Jack Russell to Parson Russell April 1, 2003(April Fool's Day - confused now?) at the request of the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America, which was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier Association of America. The Terrier formerly known as Jack Russell is recognized by the AKC. And yes, some people think there is a difference. Some dogs called "Jack Russells" weren't very much like Jack Russells and the national club wanted to separate itself from those questionable dogs that helped put the breed in the AKC Miscellaneous instead of Terrier Group. Whew! In any case, your dog is a terrier. You can't get much more terrier than that!

I guess most of that is irrelevant really since i live in New Zealand

You guys sure get complicated over there

To be honest i don't know what's the deal over here with breeds, all i know about Jake is that he's a pure breeed, and we got the papers, but had to get him neutured, so can never show him.
