What do you think? Definitely Rat Terrier/Chi mix?
So the first time I saw pics of Ollie I guessed Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. The only thing that throws it is his bushy tail. His family said Jack Russel/Chi, but his face is more Rat. I also started to wonder if it was Mini Pin Chi because of the markings over his eyes. Then today I saw this picture, and it made me almost positive he's gotta be Rat/Chi. What do you think?
![]() ![]() ![]() He's got those exact markings except less cheek color. His body (rib cage especially) and mannerisms are very Chi, as well as his ears. No idea where his bushy tail came from, as I don't know that even long-haired Chi's have a tail so bushy. lol It's like a fox's tail. So, opinions? ![]() |

Chihuahua tails can get pretty long and bushy. Here's a couple of pictures of Jesse's tail I took just a moment ago.
![]() ![]() I think it's quite possible he could be chi/JRT...then again, you may be right and he's RT/Chi. lol Wow, I'm a lot of help. ![]() Cass. |

I would definitely say Rat/Chi mix.
Just a heads up, many of the RT's pictured in that magazine are NOT very good depictions of a Rat Terrier. We (the dogs in my kennel and myself) were asked to be in a photo shoot for that Mag and we refused. They are VERY indiscriminate in what they print, this same publisher now has a "designer Breeds" Mag out just like the RT one. So sad. When I saw that I about lost my lunch and declined the shoot and the interview as did most of the other breeders who are well respected in the RT community. |

I'd definetly say RT/Chi. With his tail, I think he has the shorter and more coarse fur like the RT, but the bushy-ness and longer fur of a long haired chi. Putting those together makes sense that it's like a fox tail.
He sure is a cutie. |

Personally I think reputable breeders should jump at the chance to get themselves some publicity and show your 'average' person what kind of a breeder they should be looking for. Cass. |

Hmm... I think it's a bit hard to tell from your photo. Do you have a side-on shot of your dog? Though, I would probably say that he is RT/Chihuahua (your dog is gorgeous buy the way), and that the RT would have had coarser fur. My JRT x has a tail like that.

Tribal- thanks for your input! I didn't even pick up the magazine, just saw it in passing.
It's a shame how much publicity these "designer" mutts get. Poster children for the irresponsible! I don't blame you for not wanting to be associated with a magazine like that. It's a toss up whether it would've advertised responsible breeders like yourself or just promoted breeding (irresponsible and responsible) all at once. Who's to know the difference from a magazine ad, you know?Swiftwind, there are some photos of him in the photo section (see "Missie & Ollie *LOTS of pics*). Don't know if those would help, they are side shots, with some of his face. You know what's funny? He has like, coarse sections of hair on his body, esp. on his back. And then they're interspersed with really soft fur. His whole coat is softer since switching him to Canidae, though. ![]() |
