The Staffordshire Bull Terrier - The "Real" Story
I have been given permission from the person who created this video to cross post it here - she wants as many people as possible to see it. I hope you all enjoy it - I think Teyahstaff has done an awesome job with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi0XlI-4_g "The SBT has been copping a bit of flack in the media, being targeted as dangerous and 'statistically' rating as one of the highest biters/attackers. The trouble is, how are these statistics gathered? Who decides the difference between a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, An American Staffordshire Terrier, A Pit Bull, or any Cross Breeds for that matter? A recent article reported that an SBT was the offender, when in actual fact the picture they used for an example of the breed was an AmStaff... this highlights precisely that the media are pretty slap happy when preparing their articles and don't research these cases completely. They are looking for BIG headlines, and a quick blame solution.. Unfortunately it is ultimately the dogs that end up suffering. This video is not about shifting blame from one breed to the next, its about recognising that it is not the dog or the breed that are the problem, but the OWNERS. After all, who do the dogs learn from? We need to re-educate the public, our families, and even the media. Its about promoting "Responsible Ownership" - choosing the right dog for your lifestyle, being dedicated to providing training and guidance, and learning how to be a strong leader. As you will see in the video, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are the most loving and kindest of breeds, they are a family dog, who need to be included, loved and treated with respect... give them this and they will be your friend for life... Thank you to all who who generously donated pictures for this video, even if we can reach just a few people with our message, it will have been worth it." |

That's a fantastic video, and it's nice to see that someone's putting in an effort to clear up other's mistakes.

I just don't get why the media was first attacking the Pitbull and now they are moving on to the Staffordshire. It's really getting ridiculous.

Glad you liked it guys.
ITA Dogsareme - BSL is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of - it's the people that are the problem - not the dogs. |

Got some great news about this video - it's going to be playing in the background of Adelaide's upcoming Adelaide Expo - hopefully this way heaps of people who were unaware of BSL will get to see it and who knows - it may even change someone's opinion.

Staffordshire bull terriers are one of my faves they are so cute. I love all the bully in a small package. They look nothing like pitties or staffies so I don't see how they are confused with them.

Fingers crossed that they show this video at the Adelaide Expo. If Staffies were banned in Australia I don't know what I'd do! I've always planned on having a Staffie in the future. |

That is such a wonderful video, and so reflective of the true nature of Am Staf's. I have absolutely never met an Am Staf that was not super friendly, sweet and incredibly loving. There are a TON of Am Staf's and pitbulls, too, that go to my local dog park, and they are some of the most tolerant dogs I've met! No dog is born vicious aggressive beasts, evil people make them that way.

i have just watched that video on youtube and it was exellent, i have 2 staffordshire bull terriers and have even bred them. the reason for my devotion to them is simple! i grew up with them from a young age and find them them the most gentle loyal dogs there is (feel free to disagree)
i have never been biten or even nibbled by this breed of dog, i've been bit by a jack russel but never a staffy. my 2 year old son plays with them and lays with them on the rug. i have a stafford on my knee whilst i type this (which is quite difficult i must admit) as they thrive on affection. they love me as much as i love them if not more. everybody comments on how much a tyrant breed staffords are but knowone mentions when a yorkshire terrier or jack russel attacks someone, they might be smaller but is that any excuse to single out a certain breed? if you don't know what your talking about don't share it with the world, the world has enough biggots in it. it annoys me when i walk my dogs and people automatically cross the road or put there pets on leashes eventhough there are a varied assortment of dogs in the same vacinity. britain at the moment doesn't know what to do with this issue, its recently outlawed pitbulls and american staffords but is this the right solution? all dogs have the right to live and spread across the globe (hey we don't own it) its the bad owners who need to be put down. ![]() |

I'm really sorry you are getting the brunt of some heavy legislation and hope you are able to keep your dogs. I cannot imagine someone telling me I cannot have my dog because he is vicious only because of his breed. What are you going to do? Can you keep your dogs? I think BSL is frustrating on both sides of the fence, as I'm sure many law makers don't know what to do either. I'm in the US and we too have BSL in areas but it is not a federal law. |

fed up
early last year after a young girl got mauled to death by a pitbull the nation went potty, if your dog had the slightest bit of 'pitbull or amstaff dna' it had to be distroyed. the family that had the dog were drug users/dealers and had the dog as a status symbol. the dog had already attacked one member of the family and so they kept it 'thinking its cool to have an aggressive dog it makes us feel well hard' the guy that kept the animal didn't get prosecuted and the granmother who was babysitting got aquitted. so all in all the dog dies due to neglect and vicious training and the owners get a slap on the wrist and told never to do it again. after this the law changed for good and bad reasons, the public were more likely to speak up agaist orginaized dog fights but peoples loyal loving pets were distroyed. the dna theory has totally bewildered me and i deem it un-nessersary and pointless.
