I have a jack russel terrior, he has papers and we are working on the showing area of it, He is a awesome dog, I am wantin to stud him out when he is finished showing, someone told me that the price for the stud fee would be the price of a pup. I bought him from a friend and so I got him for $250.00 Is that asking too much? Just curious, he has been checked with the vet too for any underlying illnesses that he might pass on as well so just wantin some help here thanks

Here are a couple of links to information you would need in order to responsibly breed your dog.

A simple exam by your vet is NOT enough to discover any "underlying illnesses that he might pass on". You need to know the genetic issues specific to the breed and take the steps necessary to check for those. This will require specialists and x-rays.

Not only do you need to get him checked for any and all genetic issues that may surface in the future, you shouldn't breed him until he has his championship.
Aside from the puppies possibly being worth more because of the more titles he has, it is responsible and shows your breed (yes, by owning this breed you are a part of the entire "breed", meaing everyone who breeds Parsons and are registered breeders) that you care about why you are breeding, that your intent is NOT to make money, but to keep the line that you have true to the Parson Russel standard. NO ONE should ever breed their dog for money or cute puppies, that is NEVER what breeding is about. There is a lot to consider when breeding, there is much more than possible health issues at stake. |

Best way to figure out prices of anything is to find another (reputable) Parson Russell Terrier breeder to mentor you and teach you everything there is to do with breeding. You can do this by getting to know people at shows and through the PRT club.
Be aware that reputable breeders are extremely picky as to what studs they use, so be prepared to accept the fact that your dog may not actually have what it takes (of course, he might be perfect too...but there is always the chance). Cass. |

The thing is unless your dog is absolutely brilliant and the people respect him in the show world not many will want to use him! If he does do well in the show world then show people will ask you to use him rather than the other way around.
How rare is this breed in your country as they've only been accepted in their country of origin fairly recently? |

one other little detail to keep in mind.......an unproven stud (one that has never sired puppies) is usually cheaper than a proven stud. Once you have "proved" your stud, the rate is usually higher.
