I adore bull terriers. They're amazing dogs that are fabulous with people (as with any dog they need to be well socialized).
When I was a child, my family moved into to a new house in a new town. The day we moved in a beautiful female brindle bull terrier (who had never seen us before in her life) trotted across the street and wiggled her body happily, in greeting (ouch those tails hurt when they're going full speed LOL). My sister and I were great friends with her for the rest of her life in that street. She leaned against us (LOL) every afternoon after we came home from school and enjoyed our pats and hugs.

I don't think that an apartment is the right place for one though. Perhaps a mini? They're quite active dogs so, if it were me, I wouldn't have one without a yard.
Maybe you could get away with it if you gave it a good walk in the morning and evening, but they're not small dogs.

I must confess and say that it's my personal opinion (and so take it or leave it ), that medium to large dogs shouldn't be apartment dogs. I'm positive others will disagree though.

Check out Bull Terrier.com for lots of info and pictures.

Cass.

Bull terriers dont make bad apartment dogs as long as you have plenty of time with them. They need plenty of good steady exercise and they can be a bit stubborn so they also need quite a lot of training if that recall is ever going to be anything like reliable. They arent exactly very big (right at the smallest end of medium) so the space isnt really an issue.

My very first suggestion:

Do LOTS of RESEARCH! Before getting the dog! This way you can become familiar with their temperment, history, etc. Always the best to do.

I believe a bull terrier would do just fine in an apartment, as long as you exercised it enough. Bull terrier, as they are on the "list" of "pit bulls", are very people friendly. They are edgy with other dogs and animals of course (unless properly raised, but there can be times when dogs just have too strong an instinct, no matter how much training). I suggest you get some books and do some research on the breed before acquiring one. Some apartment complexes won't allow this type of breed, as it is considered a "pit bull" and you may get a lot of hastle for owning this breed. Alot of the owners of "pit bulls" stick up for their dogs and deal with every ounce of hastle they get from others who are uneducated and brainwashed by society.

Oh and I should add that Bull Terriers are known for being destructive dogs, especially if they get bored or aren't exercised enough (they have a lot of energy ). I think there are a couple of stories on the site I gave in my first post, that gives you an idea of what they're like.

Great dogs though, if you get one (after lots of research).. don't forget to post pictures.

Cass.

Yeah bull terriers are awesome dogs if raised right. But as Cass said, they can be very destructive. They require a lot of attention and positive training. I wouldn't suggest having one in an apartment if you are gone a lot or don't have much time for one.

The miniature bull terrier can be a bit impatient with children if not raised around them.

Both kinds are fun-loving, and hilarious.... But as everyone has said "research!!!!" Many people like the look of a breed after seeing them somewhere (this one on Target ads), don't bother doing much research, and when they get one they find out they clash horribly, and are either stuck with a dog they don't really like, or send it elsewhere. It's much better to admire a breed from a distance after finding out through research you don't work well with it, than living for years in misery questioning yourself on why you got the dog in the first place.

So very true! Well said! Can we get that on a poster somewhere? Maybe next to a picture of a torn up lounge and guilty looking pooch? LOL
