Rescues R Us

Hello... I have what we think is a Jack Russell more so than what the owners told us was a Rat Terrier. He has not been in our rescue all that long and I really hadn't noticed until the last few days that his muzzle is red as are a few areas on his legs. Is this normal for this type of dog? I do not know this breed well at all. I do know that they can be a bit hyper as he is at times but most times he is such a lover. I will post his link below but seeing as I am new to this board-not sure if it will work.

My grandfather had a Jack Russell, they're great dogs
Bingles was his name. I think your dog looks more like a Rat Terrier although it could possibly be a mix of the two. Cass. |

No he doesn't lick his legs or his snout. Maybe it is just because he is so pale looking and that makes the red come out more than usual. I am not sure. I guess my concern was- seeing as I work in hospitals and nursing homes mainly and someones nose is red-means we are running a fever. Since shrek was just neutered last week that he could possibly have an infection starting-fever and so on, or was it just a trait of his breed or breeds. Which is why I was asking. I know nothing of the JRT breed or even rat terrier if that is what he happens to be. I will just have to monitor his behaviour and see if anything changes. Thanks!!!

Ohh, it's the skin itself? Hmmm..... I thought you were talking about the hair. Sorry about that. Has he rolled in grass lately? Tasmo's whole body (skin-wise) turns really red when he rolls like a maniac in the grass. I think he's slightly allergic to the grass, but it never seems to bother him. His skin just gets reaaaally red. That's the only thing I can think of, unless it is an infection like you said. How does his incision site look?
BTW, I love his name! |

You know it could be the grass. Since it has been so nice out here lately we leave the dogs outside more and more. As for his name, that was the name that his previous owners had called him when they surrendered him to our rescue. I hope his new owners will keep that name as well. Next dog I get in will be called " Donkaay". heheheee
