Welcome!
Im so so so sorry about your whippet, is he/she doing ok now. ANy (pre-doggy attack) pics for us to see! My ambull had a best friend who was a whippet before we moved, he was such a fiesty little fellow with tons of character! Great little doggy! He took my bulldog DOWN! Next. "prone to being nasty", no they arent. They are sweet, gentle loving animals, but they are "prone to being dog aggressive". How old is the staffy? The problem is that people get these bully breeds and when they are puppies, they tend to love other dogs and so an uneducated owner can become delusional about their dogs temperament. Then sometime between the ages of 1 and 2, genetics kick in and thats when the aggression pops up and a what seemed to be dog friendly staf attacks. This is where a lot of those "but he/she has never done that before" statements come into play. A responsible owner who understands this breed would have not let her dog have the oppurtunity to let your poor whippet be hurt. A couple more notes 1) Not all stafs become dog aggressive, but its the rule rather than the exception 2) stafs brought up with other dogs can be tolerant of these other dogs. Its the dog they meet on the street that they generally have issues with. 3) The staffy that bit your dog is not a bad dog that needs to be confiscated or disposed of. It needs to be kept away from other dogs in a secure manner. The owner is however, liable for your vet bills. Please dont get the wrong impression of this wonderful breed! They really are great dogs, Im sorry that you had to deal with this. I hope you stay on global paw and thank you for taking the time to actually find out about the truth of this great dog instead of getting caught up in the hype, the world needs more people like you! |

I just read some of the posts on the other forum, most of them seem to have their heads screwed on straight and understand its the stupid owners fault and that any dog should be on a lead, not just staffies. One thing I must say is that people dont realise dog aggression and human aggression are two totally different ballparks. Just because the dog attacks another dog today, doesnt mean that a child will be attacked tomorrow. The two arent connected.
And the person who said this on that forum , i saw a lady with a staff off the lead today right by a main road so i shouted at her when i drove past ranting2.gif ranting2.gif ranting2.gif" needs a fat slap and a wake up call, thats just obnoxios. Its 8am and that person has already got me in a foul mood! |

haha! I thought you were flaming me because I called them nasty! I was about to slap you for your lack of reading comprehension! Dont worry, you are safe now
JohnK wasnt calling them nasty, he was asking and the reason he came to this board was to find out the truth, he wasnt calling them names. He is doing his studying right now! He just wanted to be educated, so put your happy face on and play nice!!! ![]() |

JohnUK... Kaz is exactly right. I hope your Whippet will be ok, you must be going through a terrible time right now. Which is why it's so much more gratifying to know that you took the time to find out the truth about the breed of dog that attacked your pet. I also hope you'll stay with us and keep us up to date on the progress of your dog. Could you drop the caps next time though, it's seen as yelling so a lot of people find it annoying to read a post that's entirely caps. Cass. |

john UK. Im really sorry to hear about your whippit. My sheltie has been attacked by dogs on 3 occasions in the past, and i know what your going through.
erm... most people on this forum hate the whole staffie stereotype. so this isnt really the best of places to come saying that about staffs and saying 'are they always aggresive'... the answer is no... ![]() |
