Jack Russell Terrier

I have a 4 1/2 month old female and a 5 year old female. They have to be the cuttest dogs I have ever seen!!! Their personalities are absolutley hilarious. I can watch them for hours and they totally crack me up. While they are known for being hard to train, very head strong etc...That has not been my experience. The only drawback (if you view it that way) with both is they innately will chase and kill small furry rodents and birds (the 4 1/2 month old can't catch them yet). They were originally bred for hunting so it is in their makeup. I would recommend getting one, absolutely adorable. My 5 year old still looks like a puppy. Both of mine are all white, which is a little more rare. try http://www.riverrunterriers.com, great blood line and temperment (great experience purchasing my 4 1/2 year old.

RiverRun's pretty nice. I'd recommend Snow Winds or Brillwood (brillwood.com), though - I think they're both great. There's a PRT forum that you could join that's great for russell lovers (brillwood.com/forums).

Mine is 4 months old, and shows the true terrier tenacity. I have found that clicker training works wonders!! I think his energy would be driving me crazy if it weren't for my Giant Schnauzer keeping him busy and teaching him manners!!

But he is great, and absolutely hysterical to watch!! He has great facial expressions, and loves to talk!

I have two JRT's. A 3 yo female, Tater & a 2 yo male, Spud. Tell your friend to visit www.terrier.com. This is the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America's web site and there is a wealth of info. This is an active breed and requires someone with an active life style. If your life style fits this breed you will have the time of your life! I'd rather spend time with my dogs than most people I know.

Good luck to your friend in finding the right dog for her.

Think everyone has said it all lol, you need a good sense of humour to own a jack, oh and some can get along with small animals

Got two JRT's, male and female, and both 12 years of age. They still act like puppies: one is chasing his ball all day long and the other one thinks she is a clown and has to entertain people (or is it just drawing attention?) . Great choise!

I think only one word can define the breed - hyper!!
JRTs have such wonderful personalities and are such fun dogs to have around. They are also very inteligent so can become easily bored. They are such fast learners (I taught my dog a new trick in less than 5 minutes), and they crave human attention.

I wouldnt get one if you yourself is not a hyper person with lots of energy willing to entertain the little guy a whole lot, or if you have small animals. They can be a rather large handful for their tiny size, but if you are the right person for them they are great. Always happy and on the move.

I have 2 Jack russells and they are awesome. They are sooo lovable to everyone and everything. We have 2 cats and they leave them alone and also my sister in law has 2 pugs and they all get along great. They never once got into a fight or didnt like any other dog. You just have to be high strung yourself....

Well, JRTs are most difinitally a terrier. lol They are extreamly active, stubborn, and they just want to play! Being a terrier, they may not always get along with other dogs, and smaller animals may be at risk.
Also being a Terrier, barking and digging are to be expected! They are very interjetic and require lots of play time.
My friend has a JRT and he is often complaining about the short white hairs that are sticking to everything, but that is just him too.

I've never owned a JRT before, nor is it a breed that particuarly interests me, so I'm sure others could tell you more.

We have two JRTs that arrived at Christmas. Sasha and Gimli are puppies, and they are crazy. We love them, but they are all energy and growing like crazy.

Check out our blog about them at www.jackrussellterrorists.com.

Hi...I have a Jack russell. His name is Minty and is 6 months old. He has a fantastic temeperment. As he's getting older he's becoming a wonderful little dog. At first he was a handfull but has settled down really well. The temeperement depends on the parents i think. You need to make sure you view the parents if getting a puppy. Jacks are great little dogs and full of character, they keep you amused for hours. When i first got Minty i wasn't sure it was the right dog for me, but as i say he's settling down beautifully as he's getting older. I love my little guy to pieces.

We own a 1/2 jack and have several friends with purebred jacks. Temperment-wise, our cross is identical to a purebred JRT.
She is:
exceedingly active and would race around and play 24/7 if possible.
has more smarts than a dog should and has outwitted us (she opens cabinets and closets, and can undo any crate latch).
is easily taught
often chooses to not follow instruction
Digs/Hunts (these are tied behaviors) semi-obsessively
And this might seem like a lot of bad things, but she is also the funniest dog I’ve ever known and is a great companion. She is happy to be a lapdog when being held for hours and at the same time is overjoyed at the prospect of a 10 mile hike. I love to be greeted at the sound of my alarm clock and the view of a tennis ball 2 inches from my face. I know my buddy has been sitting and waiting for it to be time to wake me up for another great day of playing together. She’s always happy, always rarin’ to go, and is the most people-focused dog I’ve ever known. She is a huge dog in a little body, bossing around our other (larger and slightly older) terrier and would boss us around if she felt for an instant she could. She is also fearless…and has taken on challenges it’s clear her tiny little frame can’t handle. Always a concern for me.
If you are an active person and feel up to a dog who will challenge you, a JRT is a wonderful dog.
