Therapy Pits :)

Hello I was just wondering if there is anyone else on here who does therapy work with their American Pitbull Terriers or Bull Terriers if they own them? I own 8 dogs 6 APBTs and 2 BTs 4 dogs out of my little pack are certifide Therapy dogs. Their names are Astro (APBT), Irish (APBT), Sissy (APBT), and Rumble (BT) they are big hits in the hospital and Nursing Home I visit with them.

We also have little appearences we do with the dogs of ours who do agility and weight pulling at Grade Schools. We usually bring the whole lot with us to these but since some are retired only certain dogs do the actual entertainment. What each dog does at these shows Astro who is retired from weight pulling is just a friendly walk around dog for the kids, Beans main event is agility but he also does some weight pulling for the kids it depends on his day, Smokey is just a friendly walk around dog, Irish weight pulls at these shows as the top dog as he and Rumble usually end the show with a competition, Sissy is there to be a friendly walk around dog and to do agility she and Lena even have their own special trick where they sit on the see saw together, Rumble weight pulls at these shows, Venus does agility only during these shows.

These shows are meant to educate the public (as we also do them at local fairs) about Pitbulls and Bull Terriers and how they are much more then just a tough image as there are alot of anit pitbull people around here.

We also breed our pitbull but only 3 out of our 6 pitbulls are breeding dogs and both of the Bull Terriers are too. Our dogs have to pass high health and temperment tests before I even consider breeding them and I am very picky. We breed a litter ever other year and sell to well researched homes and keep tabs on the pups for awhile afterwards it is in contract that our puppies muct be spayed or neutered and we have yet to see it not happen. Wel also rescue Pitbulls, Bull Terriers, and Pitbull or Bull Terrier mixes close to the big sleep and rehome them ourselves.

Just about about us and our Bullie dogs .

Jeana

Seems as though you are one of the good owners of the breed Its nice that you have the buyers spay and neuter not to many pitbull owners seem to know what that is .I was actually looking into getting a bull terrier a few months ago but I ended up getting an Australian Cattle dog who is every bit tenacious as a terrier and they do have bull terrier in there lineage as well as DINGO! lol Someday I would love to own a therapy dog but Cai is not a good canidate as he is to suspicious of strangers and aloof. I wanted a guard dog for my home and he is going to soon start protection work (schutzhund) he loves women and children but hates men! I live in a really nice part of Massachusetts but we have been having alot of home brake-ins and I wanted something under 80lbs cause I have always had GSD and pitbull mixes so I wanted to down size. Keep up the good work I am glad to see a responsible pitbull breeder looking to better the breed and not just BYB to make a quick buck. Good luck

Thank you so much . Bull Terriers are a trip to own I am still fairly new to it though both Rumble and Venus are adult dogs im still learning from them. I have been used to Pitbulls for so many years and Bull Terriers yes they have their things in common but on the other hand these dogs are in a completely different ball park lol but i love them .

I love people like you! So rare to find good responsible pit bull owners. I would love to do therapy work with mine but she was abused before we got her and although she is the sweetest girl in the world she presents herself as scared silly to strangers, it is really sad.

i don't, but i think it's awesome awesome awesome that you get your dogs out there and let people know how awesome they can be. i think it's especially valuable getting them into schools so that kids grow up knowing that they're not evil monsters.

thank you for being such a valuable breed advocate!

Wish I had some little clapping smilies to post because I wanna give you a round of applause. I'm so happy to see some as responsible as you, giving both breeds (especially the Pitties) a good name.

I don't own a bullie of any kind ( ) or do therapy work with my dog...but, on a different forum I go to (an Aussie one) there are a few Bull Terrier people there who do therapy work with their BT's. It's such a delight to hear about their work and how much the people they visit love the dogs.

I LOVE Bull Terriers...I hope you'll post tonnes more pictures of your pups for us to see, I loved the first lot you posted.

Cass.
