My boyfriend got me a japanese chin about a year ago and i love him to death! There were so many other breeds we had seen but Bongo had the most personality out of all of them. He's very affectionate and loves to play. Rarely barks(only 2 times to date) unless he senses danger and even then it's more cute than threatening. What I love the most about him is that he is able to entertain himself for hours. He chases his tail, litterally runs laps around my apartment(which is why we never worry if we don't have enough time to take him out on his walk), and nearly every night in bed I can hear him downstairs playing with his little squeak toys. Very friendly and get along with everyone and everything. I never have to worry about him biting my nephews, we also have a bird that he likes to play with, once again never worried that anyone will get hurt. Very calm, and is also able to mirror our moods. Its like he can sense when we are happy or lazy, and then becomes happy & lazy as well. Chins from what I have heard and from my own experience are very good dogs, I can go to school and come home with everything still in its place give or take a toy here or there that he's been playing with. He also associated well with other dogs no matter their size. My boyfriend has a german shepard and they are always chasing eachother around!
something interesting is the different ways he associates with my boyfriend and myself. With my boyfriends he's playful and loves fighting and pouncing, the occasional bite(because my boyfriend encourages it) and with me he's playful but he has NEVER bit me even when he was teething. he's very friendly so i have never had any problems with separation anxiety or just dropping him off for a grooming. though my boyfriend doesn't like that he's so friendly, he's afraid the little guy is just gonna walk off with some strangers some day... only con i can think of is he sheds alot! pretty much everything you read in a book about him is correct except for the fact that he has a ridiculous amount of energy that we can't even keep up to. no nasal problems yet but our chin has a longer snout than others (we joke and call him the Chin reject sometimes thought he is a certified purebred ha ha) so that may have something to do with it. Highly recommended as a pet, especially kids, my little siblings and nephews love him. He is also a fast learner which was definitely a plus! sorry about the novel, but i hoped i helped =) Definitely a good breed if you like companionship! |

I know that's true for Chihuahuas. Thanks for the info, I adore Japanese Chins too and am always fascinated to hear first hand accounts. Got any pictures of your little "Chin reject" (lol, I'm sure he's gorgeous and not a reject at all ). Cass. |
