Sort of sad today :(

I got a call from the breeder today and they found out that kiwi has a grade 2 murmur She asked me if I still wanted him and of course I did! I guess the upside is that I get him 2 days early!

That's so sad. Good luck and Kiwi's in my thoughts.

The heart problems is what stopped me getting a cav. I love the breed, but it's just got such a big issue here. Worst part is that breeders and vets don't really know what to do about it because they can't find a genetic reason for why it's happening.

Best wishes

Dei

Aw, I'm so sorry. That's great that you still want her though, you must be so attached. I'm so sorry, I can't imagine what that's like...

I'm sure she will be all you can imagine and more, she seems like such a doll. You may think that you pick them, but they really pick you. I'm sure it was meant to be, for whatever reason.

I'll be thinking of you and Kiwi.

It had to be some sort of fate as I knew I could never give him up! The breeder was so sad when she emailled me Thanx for your thoughts....

Another thing because of this recent discovery we did not want to subject him to the 5 hour car ride to where we live so The breeder is going to fly with him and bring him to us..... would this cause alot of stress???

I don't think it will cause too much stress as long as the breeder takes him in the airplane with her. If your new baby is going to go in the cargo of the plane...drive and pick him up! I work for an airline and I don't care what anyone says...don't check your animals as baggage! I would drive and pick him up if it was 20 hours to drive.

Every dog is different, but I think that being with the breeder in the cabin (will she be in the cabin?) will really cut down on the stress. Also, there are different opinions about Rescue Remedy, but you might want to try that. I use it with my Maltese when we go to the cabin, and it really helps her calm down.

My Maltese flew up to us from Las Vegas, and she was fine. Of course, going from home to home (we were her forth home in a little over a month) was tough on her and she was stressed out, but I don't think the plane ride stressed her out that much. She flew up with a family friend that she hadn't met before and she did really well and was pretty happy before and after the flight. In fact, I think that a car ride would have been more stressful on her.

Personally, I think it's great that the breeder is flying with Kiwi. I think that he'll feel comfortable with someone he knows. When are you getting him?

I'm so sorry for Kiwi and you but I'm so very glad you'll take him anyway...bless you for that. It may be a challenge but I'm sure he will add years of happiness to your life and you can make sure he is well taken care of.
I believe in fate as well...maybe he's your little angel in waiting! Keep us posted...good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear your pup has a murmur. My old guy has a heart murmur too, he's fine though. Currently on medication for it and apart from a little coughing, you'd never know there was something wrong.
I hope your pups murmur is nothing but a minor "hiccup" in an otherwise wonderful life.

Can't wait to see pictures of your baby when he arrives.

Cass.

My Boone had a murmur when we got him. However, he did grow out of it. Alot of puppies/human babies are born with there, and they disappear over the first few months.
I actually have a murmur also, and aside from a few palpatations that I can feel it really doesn't effect me at all.
