Smile Update on Baby :)

She is still the most well behaved pup! She truly does make me happy I have been feeding her Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice formula puppy food. She loves it! She also likes to play a game with me when she is eating it! She will put one piece of kibble in her mouth and then spit it out on the floor so that i can pretend to take it from her. After repeating this process about three times, she finally eats it. It is so adorable!
I don't want to get her addicted to treats due to them being so rich and her having a tiny sensitive tummy. I have found something she loves and is good for her. I bought her the all natural flavored Nyla bones. She absolutely loves them! Since she is still teething (not all of her teeth are in yet) she needs something to chew on besides my fingers!
Which leads to the next thing...
She has been biting pretty rough, but she is responding to the "no!"
When we yip after being nibbled at hard, she backs up and looks at us like "i'm sorry!" So cute! Also, when she bites too hard, I will gently grab her lower jaw and tell her no. She then nibbles softer. It will take a little while for her to understand that she cannot bite her mommy but I can already tell it is working. Hopefully I am doing it correctly?
Her potty training is going quite well. She will hold her bladder most of the time to be taken outside. Once we take her out, she knows to go potty. Everytime she does have an accident on the floor, I will show her and then take her outside. I also bought puppy pads for her at night while everyone is asleep and she cannot go potty. She is already using them
Over all, She is a great pup and i couldn't be happier with her!

Any advice on her food, discipline, or potty training?

Thanks

Jill

There are a few things you could try a bit differently. Beware the food game, it may be cute now, and she may grow out of it, but it may end up becoming a routine, and she may not want to eat her food unless it is in the form of a game.
For the biting, you don't need to grab her jaw to improve this. Try directing her attention to something she IS allowed to bite/chew on. Bones, toys, even the "towel idea". Get a towel or a cloth, wet it and wring it, and place in a freezer still scrunched up. It is a great toy for them, and it helps a LOT with teething. So basically, keep with the "No", when she gets you, and praise/reward her when she does it to the appropriate things.
The potty training, I know some people who have used training pads. I personally don't like them. You are still training them to think it is ok to "go" in the house. Even in specified areas, it can be hard to break them of it as they get older. Also, showing her the pee before you take her out won't help. If you don't catch her doing it, she won't understand. If you do catch her, simply take her straight outside, don't "point out" her oopsie.
Hope this helped..LOL. I'm sure you'll get more responses and advice. Also, try searching for other threads on these topics. There are quite a few of them if you want to read over previous responses.
And good luck with your pup, what a cutie!!!

The food game is only occasional. She will eat her food by herself. She doesn't rely on the game for food

I was curious about the jaw thing... It was my roommate's idea because she did that with her pug she had. Whenever my puppy does bite too hard, I grab one of her Nyla bones that have nubbies on it to help her teethe. I really am trying to redirect her from biting my fingers. The "no" works and she seems to be getting better.

Now the potty training! Lord help me! lol
It is a bit frustrating sometimes. She has no problems going outside to pee but she does not like to poo outside. She would rather do it on the floor in the house lol She does do it occasionally outside, and when she does either, she is praised. I didn't mean to sound like I rub her nose in it because I don't think that is a nice way to treat a baby! The only time I have shown it to her was when I caught her in the act. I wanted to show her that was a "no no" and then I took her outside. Once I even caught her ABOUT to poo on the floor but I picked her up and took her immediately outside and she did her business there.

Something I don't understand is that she sometimes pees near the place where her food is in the kitchen. (She stays there with a baby gate when we are at work.) I always thought that they wouldn't do that near their food or bed...

I know that potty training will take awhile and I have the patience to keep things consistant. I never yell at her because she is just a baby and is learning new things every day.

Thanks for your input and anyone else with advice is welcome to share it!

With the jaw thing, I don't think it is necessary, but I don't think it will hurt either.

Mandi sounds just like you pup with the potty training. She learned sooo fast, but was a little slow with the poo. I really don't think that there is more for you to do, just wait till she gets the idea. Sounds like you are doing things right.

I hope you enjoy your puppy! Good luck!
