Question Looking for a toy in Hawaii...

Aloha everyone,

I'm looking for preferably a toy or miniature poodle in Hawaii. However, Hawaii has very stringent quarantine laws and for those reasons I'm only looking within Hawaii. Can anyone hook me up with a breeder? or if not can someone offer a suggestion to other dogs that do well with smaller children? I have 2 young girls that, like every other child adores animals. We have 2 rotties, and 3 cats. However, they love poodles and I'd like to get them a lifetime friend much like a poodle, something that they can cuddle with that wont get irritated with the attention. They seem to be attracted to dogs with longer hair but that are small also. Not teacup sized but small enough that they can handle. We also like the idea that poodles have no odor and they do not shed. However, the grooming scares me. Can someone suggest alternative dog breeds?

You might try Petfinder.com as well. Shelters are bound to have small dogs with less grooming needs, and ones that really need homes! Best wishes with your search.

If the grooming scares you, then you must find a DOG groomer who is professionally trained, especially with puppy clips as I assume you will be using that clip. Also there is NO such thing as a teacup or Imperial Toy or Tiny Toy etc. etc. Poodle! Poodles come in three (3) sizes: Toy, Miniature, and Standard. NOTHING IN BETWEEN. The bigger/larger are just runts or bigger naturally. Extremely tiny dogs should not be bred. That said, please visit the Poodle Club of America's site and search for Breeder Referrals. Luck!

Red face Yes

YES there is Poodles come in Standered, Mini, and toy. The teacup and tinytoy aren't a seperate breed in the AKC standers, but there is such a thing, toy poodles are 6-10pounds the tiny toy is 4-6 and the teacup grow to be a few pounds. It might be extemly small but there is such a thing I have seen them in real life.

The tiny toy is so close to the TOYs size that they basicly are just Toy poodels,

If it was up to me it would be standered, mini, Toy and teacup, the teacup is basically smaller and smaller toy poodles breed together until they are really small! And I agree with you the exteremly small ones like the teacup poodels should be breed and the tiny toys are just slightly smaller, ok sorry I guess you were right about the size!!!!

Any way Go to google and type in Toy poodles and a lot of breeders will come up. I don't know if you know but a good price range to be looking for toypoodles is 250-450 Some ppl sel um for thousands of $$$ which isn't worth it.

No, you've got me all wrong. There are such things as 4lb-ish poodles, but those are simply SMALLER TOY Poodles. The AKC standard goes from 6-10 lbs. By your definition, a 'Tiny Toy' is, in fact, just a Toy Poodle. The Toys that are bred down to 4-lbs, are usually unhealthy and can carry a myriad of problems. No matter what you call them, they're ALL TOY Poodles. You see what I mean? The Tiny Toy and Teacup terms were not invented as a standard and are commonly used by bybs and puppy millers. Any reputable breeder reg'd with the PCA will dispell that myth. That is what I mean when I say there are no Tiny Toy, Imperial Toy, Teacup, etc. Poodle. They come in Three sizes. Anything lower or higher than the standard will have difficulty showing, and, in my opinion, should not be bred.

Lightbulb

Yah sorry I agree with you know. I have heard and on breeders websites the dogs called teacup, etc. After I thought about that stuff I really do agree with you.

People just like the sound of "I have teacup toy poodle!" and in theroy they really have a super small version of a toy.

I definetly agree with you on the super small toy poodles shouldn't be bred.

I know that poodles have hip problems alot! and i personally think for smaller kids you should get a sturdier dog.... go to the shelter also if you can't find a purebred that you like.

Actually.. not just the big dogs. I've heard of small dogs having that problem and goodness knows I hear of enough pugs with bad hips. I have heard of it a lot more recently than I used to. Such a bummer.

alright... the last statement made absolutely no sense...all dogs have problems and some more than others.. mostly because of overbreeding.. its really sad.
