Rant....family...grrrrr

I had to dog sit last weeked, from Wed. to Sun. I couldn't take my dog with me, so I dropped her off at my aunts house on Tues (then she was with my family from fri. to yesterday, when I came back). I came back on Sun. and was going to the horse farm Mon. morning. My mom wouldn't let me take her, because my sister and brother would be bored. Well, I came back yesterday, and she has matts EVERYWHERE. It is like they didn't groom her at all! This morning, I tried to cut most of the matts out, but MY GOD! How hard is it to brush her?!?!?!?!?! Grrrr, I am so mad right now. It isn't like they didn't know, they even told me about some of them! Well, nothing I can do know. Thanks for listening to my rant.

How terrible. It's a shame when family members don't "pitch in" when you need help. I've seen people do that and say to their child "Well it's your dog"...

Hope you can get some of those mats out. I'm sure it's uncomfortable for her since she's used to being brushed all the time!

We can still do the dying! Most all of the matts are on her legs.

ETA: Yeah, they always tell me, "She isn't just your dog!" but she is when the responsibilities come around, like taking her out in the morning, or BRUSHING HER etc. w/e I think she is my dog!

Well, maybe you need to talk to your family about that. Tell them, point blank, look guys, if she's our dog, then we ALL have to pitch in. If you don't want the responsibility, then whatever..she's mine.

Sorry, I just like to be blunt, you know that!

I was going to suggest that also. Just tell your family you want a sit down talk like adults. Let them know how unhappy you were that no on took care of her coat, and that if anyone wants to watch her again, they they have to agree to give her a daily brushing so that you don't find all those matts again.
If she isn't your dog, I'd hate to think of what she will look like if you move out. Poor girl.

It is a shame when a dog who has lots of easily matted hair is neglected like that -- right in front of their faces. A couple of days without being brushed can cause matts let alone a few days.

I hope Mandi wasn't too uncomfortable during her grooming. Give her a kiss on the nose for all of us.

Thanks everyone! Mandi wasn't too uncomfortable, because I still haven't fullt tackled it. I just cut most of it out, and because she hates to be groomed, I decided to break it up into sessions. I think I will have to talk to my family. The insist on calling her a family dog, and I really don't see that at all. I take care of her for the most part (sometime I have to leave her with them...just like this past time, and ever once in a while when they are bored, they will take her on a walk), I take her well....everywhere with me, and when I move out, I am taking her(mom says i have to but I wouldn't leave her anywayz. I mean, even if they didn't brush her, they could have at least cut the mats out before they reached her skin! Oh well, Mandi is in for another grooming session tonight, and maybe if I can get it all out she will have a bath too!

We are at my aunts house now, dog sitting, so Mandi is getting TONS of exercise running around with their italian greyhound. Maybe I can wait till she is worn out to groom her. She is 'lunging'(not really the appropriate word, but nothing else comes to mind) and barking at me now, trying to get me to play.

Mandi didn't get her bath, but she sure does look pretty with no matts and brushed out fur!! She wasn't too happy with me, but didn't put up a fight for a good part of it. Now she is a happy puppy!
