I would have him neutered. I had my boy done at 7 months of age and my girlfriend had her boy done at 4...both have very loving natures, the surgery did not "change" their personality whatsoever.
Unless you are showing him, I see no reason to keep him intact and there are many beneficial health reasons to have them neutered.
This is a quote from my book " The Dog Owner's problem solver:
" A number of health advantages can be put forward for having your dog neutered. Castration reduces the incidence of :
1) Testicular cancer- relatively common in the older unneutered male dog.
2)Anal Adenomas - tumors that appear aroung the anus often causing severe irritation, bleeding, and sometimes problems with defecation.
3) Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia - enlargement of the prostate gland due to the effect of testosterone.
Hope this helps you make up your mind, and be assured that your beloved pup will be no worse for wear once it's done. Good luck

Neuter him. I've found that neutering makes many male dogs better pets.

Neutering Increases the risk of certain cancers. Neutering May change the personality of dogs, but not usaully. Training helps the most with marking issues.

Do you have any other dogs?

Neuter him definately. There is no reason for him to be intact and it will not change his personality. He is who he is and he'll always be that way.

I agree get him neutered - my male was done at around 7 months and he is the same as he's always been.

What are you cleaning the areas with - some cleaners have a smell that make them want to keep going there which could be why he's continually re-marking the same spots.

While I agree with having him neutered, if this is a new behaviour in a 2 year old dog then a vet visit is in order to rule out urinary tract infections or any other possible medical issues that may be causing this.

I have never heard of any studies that show that neutering can increase the risk of any types of cancer. I do know that there is some debate in regards to muscle and structural developement in large breed dogs that are neutered young.

I agree with LilacDragon. While it does sound like marking, frequent, small amounts of urine can signify a medical problem such as a urinary tract infection. So it's best to rule out a medical problem first, and then look into nuetering. Your little guy is about the right age to start showing those male hormones, so don't worry, just take him in to be sure.

Encourage your friend to get their male nuetered, too, before he starts marking. The average dog owner has no reason to keep a dog intact, and the consequences are more than most people want to deal with. Nuetering usually has beneficial effects on a male's "character" because they're not under the control of hormones and instinct so much.

I agree. It could be a medical problem. I would bring the dog to a vet.
