Exclamation Any Papillon owners?

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and going to purchase a small dog hopefully sometime this year! I am really wanting to find a fairly cheap Papillon puppy. I've looked at several different websites about the breed, but I would like to hear from some real Papillon owners to make sure this breed is something I would like to have of my own! You can e-mail me or post here, I would really appreciate it!

Buy only from a breeder who does health tests, shows, and scans all buyers.

How did I miss this??

**waves hand wildly** I'm a Papillon owner! I'm so sorry I missed this thread.. I don't know how that happened.

Anyway.. I have a little Papillon boy, who is just wonderful. He's a little bit of a handful sometimes, but he's just a comical little dog. He didn't come from a good breeder at all, and has more than his fair share of health problems, but he's still a lively, happy little dog.

And I'm just wondering.. Are you sure the Papillon is the breed for you?
If you want a dog that sleeps in your lap every time you sit down, a Papillon is not for you. If you want a dog that jumps in your lap, licks your face, and then spins as fast as he can in your lap, get a Papillon. They aren't exactly calm dogs.
If you want a dog that will HOUSETRAIN easily, think twice about getting a Papillon. My Ripley took ages to house train (he's still not reliable!!) and my friends with papillons say the same.
But, if you want a very happy, friendly (usually) affectionate, SMART, comical little dog that lives to make people laugh, a pap is a good bet.

Also, you said you wanted a 'cheap' pup.. Papillons are notoriously expensive. They're a difficult dog to breed and show, so many reputable breeders charge quite a lot for their pups, because THEY have to stay afloat too. Even their pet quality dogs can go for well over $1,500. And, take it from me, I've made the mistake, don't buy from anyone who doesn't do health testing, and who doesn't breed to improve the breed. Don'g buy from a pet store, and don't buy from some "backyard" breeder who advertises in the newspaper. Really, REALLY do your research on how to find a responsible breeder, before you go out and get a Papillon.

Finally you come, Rip! The poor guy has been dying here for a while now waiting for a fellow Pap Person. How cruel.

Hey, I try to read every thread but real life always interferes! Make RL go away so I can spend all my time on GP. (That'd be a nice vacation!)
