I don't have a pom, but reading your stories about them I was wondering if it is common for the breed to be very possessive and protective? Is it something that can be avoided or corrected, or is it something that is always in their nature? I've thought of adding a pom to our home but I'm not sure if we can have a possessive pup in the house.

your pup shouldnt be possesive if you dont baby it. When he starts barking dont pick him up and pet him because he will keep on doing it.
when he does something bad dont talk to him or look him in the eye just remove him from the situation.

iawtc - people say that small dogs are meaner or more possessive or protective, but it's only cause the owners think it's cute at first and they encourage it.

If you correct the bad behaviors young (or upon arrival to your home) you'll save yourself from a lot of the so-called possessiveness.

My pom was not possessive or protective. He was silly fun-loving guy and everyone loved him.

My aunt has a little black guy named Snuggles (yes guy) He is about 13 years old now and is still as spry as he was as a pup. He is a little more stiff than he used to be and has lots of grey hairs but he is still sweet and sassy as ever. I love snuggles. He is such a sweety. I would never have one because I don't think I could handle that long hair but they are cute and have great personalities.

I have an 11 week old black and white pomeranian. She's quite a hand full right now. I'm having the hardest time getting her to go poopy on her puppy pads... she always pees on them but never poops.... very frustrating.

She is still a baby so hang in there. The fact that she pees on the pad is excellent. You might want to put a little poop on the pad and take her there right after a feeding.

I have a little Pom his birthday is January 9th 2008. He's full of spunk and he's the friendliest little guy I've ever met!
I'd love to meet other pom owners and lovers!

I love pomaranians !!

I just lost my pomaranian of 15 years. I really miss him so much. He was my best friend. I had to go out and purchase 2. I got one female and a male. They are a handful, but loving every minute.

new pups to help with loss

My best friend " a Pom " of 15 years passed away 8 weeks ago. I miss him so much. I had to go out and get a female and male pom puppy. I am happy again even though I still miss Cody. .

Hey, I miss my Dinky and he passed 7 years ago! He lived for 18 years and was my heart. I love my new Pom. There is something very special about Pomeranians that only those who have been so fortunate to have had them understand.
