Question What is a good dog food

I have been hearing alot about all the bad dog foods but not much on the good foods, So I am wondering what are some of the Good Dog foods, and are any of them better for toy breeds?

Well INNOVA is one of the best and they do make a very tiny adult one, and they now have puppy formula.

The 5 pugs here get Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. The kibble is a decent size so they can eat without a problem, it's a great quality food, and they each give it 4 paws up. They love the stuff.

My JRT x is on Royal Canin (which is a pretty good brand, but not the top brand you can get), and my Chihuahua is on Nature's Gift (you probably don't get this where you live).

Our puppies are on Canidae... they love it. Before our St. wouldn't eat all of this food, but now I can use it as treats to train. The kibble is pretty small, and our 7 week old puppy has no issues, so I'm sure that it would work for your dog. There seem to be a nice selection of great quality foods out there. Someone listed a bunch of them in another thread so just do a search and you will find some good recommendations

I have 2 Toy Poodles on Innova EVO. They both are doing great on it, one who used to have lots of IBS attacks prior to being on EVO now barley has any bouts of it.

If u want the best...Go with Solid Gold's line (most expensive though)...For a cheaper version...try NUTRO...a VERY respectable food at a VERY reasonable price...

We're just beginning to transition Winston (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy) from Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy to Merrick Puppy Plate. I like that it's human-grade. The woman who owned the store where we went recommended it very highly.

All of the dog foods mentioned except Eukanuba are good foods. If you're going to go with Nutro, I would suggest either Nutro Natural Choice or Nutro Ultra, Ultra being the best. I wouldn't feed Nutro Max due to the corn, but it is better than some of the other food as it doesn't have by-products.

Natura products are great, they're the ones that make Innova, Innova EVO, California Natural, Healthwise, and Karma Organic. I've never tried Healthwise or Karma Organic, but I like their other products. Innova EVO is great and the kibbles are nice and small, but unfortunately it was too rich for my little ones. If it works with your dog, I would definitely recommend it. California Natural has pretty big kibbles, but it's a great food and you can always break them up (blender, hammer, whatever). It's good for dogs with sensitive stomachs as it has a very basic ingredient list.

My dogs are in the process of switching to Merrick. I have a very picky eater (my own fault, I shouldn't have given her so many table scraps), and she's taken the most interest in it than any other dog food (besides Waltham, that's her favourite and she'll eat it, but it has a ton of corn). My other dog loves the Merrick, especially the Wilderness blend dry food, but she'll eat the other ones too. I usually wet the dry food with warm water then put a little canned on top of it. Their flavours are incredible (Campfire Trout Feast, Grammy's Pot Pie, Mediterranean Banquet, Thanksgiving Day Dinner, etc.), and most people with picky eaters have had good luck with this food. My picky eater won't eat it, but if she were hungry I think it would be the first one she'd eat.

Another good food that wasn't mentioned is Wellness. Some dogs don't like it at all, but the ingredients are good and some people swear by this food.

If I were you, I'd try to get samples of some of these foods (I've found that premium food companies are usually quite generous with their samples) and see which one your dog likes best. Good luck!

Natural Human grade Canidae here...
We were feeding Chicken soup, but we were suposed to get a rescue, and in his contract we had to feed him one of 5 foods, canidae being the number one choice. Kino LOVES it.

Has anyone in Australia fed 'My Dog'? Looking at the ingredients it seems quite good (no corn or grains...very little -if any- by product) but I don't really know much about dog food and was curious about this brand. Jesse loves it (also loves Nature's Gift) and prefers it to anything else I've fed him.

Cass.

EDIT: Have to feed him canned/moist food because he doesn't have any teeth (well, he has one or two but not enough to allow him to eat even semi-moist kibble comfortably).

I feed all three of my Chihuahuas "Royal Canin" they like it and their coats are really shiny. The bites are extremely tiny, so it is easy for them to chew. I have been hearing a lot of good comments about the "Merrick" food also.
