Therapy Dogs

Does anyone have any guidance for training Chihuahuas for use as therapy for sick children?

We have bred some sweet dogs and have experienced their therapeutic effect first-hand, so we would like to share them.

Any words of wisdom?

Check with your local all -breed club. I am teaching a therapy dog class through my all breed club, and we certify at the end.

I'm getting my blind 13 year old Chihuahua certified for therapy work. Just go on line at TDI.com and you can get all that information. They will send you the paperwork and let you know the nearest TDI Certified Evaluator in your area.

I'm going to wait till Jan. to get her certified because all registrations expire on December 31st and therefore are required to be renewed annually. No sense getting her registered for three months and then go thru. all the paper work, Vet. visits again so soon.

Grandma, I posted a thread and I must have worded it wrong or something because everyone started to freak out on me and they said we shouldnt breed Chihuahuas because we cant socialize them. When we dedicate all our time (when we have the puppies) into socializing them with all people and kids. Go look at my board and read it, does it sound like we dont take care of our dogs or something because some lady was like, "I hate people who ruin my breed." And stuff like that.

Brooklyn ~ That lady is another member of our forum who simply stated that it was distressing to her when irresponsible breeders breed dogs. Perhaps it would be wise for you go back and not only look through but read the entire post before posting something so harsh.

I also have a dislike for people who attempt to ruin my breed of choice as well.

I agree, I hate people who attempt to ruin my breed of choice also and I am not doing so. How does she think we are ruining 'her' breed? And how are we irresponsible? I dont know why she got so mad, she doesnt know us, or our dogs, they are perfectly healthy and friendly and everything, just as good as any major BREEDER breeder. We are just hobby breeders and actually only have 3 chihuahuas. They are all good examples of the breed and they are being raised for Therapy Dogs not show dogs or anything, so why does it matter? And I have done so much research about Chihuahuas and (actually all animals) and I am always on the computer doing reports on them even though I dont have to and that really hurt my feelings and made me feel bad, and said I was a byb, and that makes me feel like all my work was for nothing. Yeah I am only 13 but it doesnt mean I am not just as responsible and knowledgeable as people who are older than me. I was just defensive because I was hurt and I didnt think I deserved what she said to me, I said I was sorry to her and told her I got what she meant but she never replied so I guess **Edit - Personal attacks are not permitted here at Global Paw.**, and again, I am getting defensive... *sigh*

First off did you ever think that maybe the member has not been back online since you posted your response? Second, I would strongly suggest that if someone's posts get you upset enough to resort to name calling that you don't respond until you've calmed down. Go back and read through the original post, you gave no information about your breeding program and the majority of the comments made were general in nature.
