healing wounds itch....hes going to do it. Same with neuter wounds...

if hes not directly touching the wound itself he should be ok.
Im assuming the "head cup" is covering his ears, and hes scratching ontop of that....so I wouldnt worry too much.....

if he does it too much or on the actual wound then this is a great time to start teaching him a stop command.

Just to clarify, the ears are taped to the cup and the cut edges are left exposed. So when he scratches he is actually scratching his ears. If he continuously scratches, I'd be worried that he could rip some of the stitches out. I would imagine that if he irritates them too much you may be delayed in posting after the stitches are removed.

I really don't have much advice, other than maybe an e-collar.

My Dobe wasn't turned over to me until the scabs were almost entirely healed. I did use a little Neosporin and took the sutures out myself. If they look oozie or smell badly, get your pup to the vet. If you use some Neosporin, only put a very thin film over the scabs. If that doesn't help the itching, you best call your vet.

how did you remove the sutures? He has three that need to come out on Wed. they look like a knot.

they look like they are healing well now that the scabs were knocked off by him. I keep applying the neosporin.

You could put boots on his back paws. I know a lady who has one dog that was scratching and irritating this one spot on his neck- she put him in boots and he stopped. They must feel weird to scratch with, and even if they dog scratch, it's just fabric insread of nails.

heres what i did with dabe.
when he went to go scratch them i would gently rub my fingers over his ears and scratch around the itchy parts.
scabs itch like crazy so it is to be expected.
believe it or not that little cup on his head can take some major abbuse, i thoight dabians was gonan be off within the week and it stayed on for like 3 weeks if memory servs me right.
in my opinon and i could be wrong but neosporin promotes scarring just like vasiline does, i think the better choice would be like tripple antibiotic ointment. i could be wrong tho.
anyways, make sure you check his ears for infection krustyness.
dabe had to get some ointment from the vet that cleared it up in 24 hours.
just something to look out for.
heh, prepair for the devil horns after the cup, thats even more fun.

Use Vitamin Ad Ointment

here's what to do, my conehead is in same phase. He has only been cropped for a day now. Get a large sock. STRETCH IT OUT..Cut 2 slits halfway up sock. Then place sock over cup and tie loose ends under chin....this way he cant get at it.that is what my vet Dr. Kenneth Main recommended, he is best around.....also get Vitamin AD OINTMENT. Put on exposed edges of ears after 2-3 days..not before....I know it is a long task..i was up all night and skipped work today to monitor him on his first critical day...

Fire,

How's your Dobe doing? Are the scabs all gone yet? Stitches? Hope things are going OK for you. If you need help with posting, there's a thread about that in this forum. Scott needed some ideas, so I wrote my experiences, including some trial and error that I went through and put a website there....don't know if you've done this before.

Hope your little fellow heals soon.
As for removing stiches you cut them just below the knot. But I am wondering???? why not just get the vet to remove them?

Here's what my vet had us do.. He said to run your dog, make him tired so he falls asleep - sounds silly but it does help out. Damon was always scratching his tape off and making the styrofoam posts come out.. Good luck with it, and about the stitches.. isnt' your vet taking them out?? Ours took them out.
