A question for Husky owners?

Hi
I have a curious question.
I have a new husky pup and she never howls but barks alot, my previous husky only howled and never barked.
Any husky people have a husky that barks but doesn't howl?
I kind of miss the cute howly talk that my other husky would do.
This pup has a real sharp bark.
thanks
Lisa

Did this pup grow up somewhere that had other barking breeds around? IF puppies grow up with barking dogs it is common for them to adopt the barking sound rather than the wooo woooo sound when they start mimicing the sounds of dogs as young pups. Whereas if the place they grew up had mainly other huskies that usually only woo and howl, they will adopt those sounds.

You could try playing wolf howling cd's to get your pup use to the sound. When I had sibes they'd do both.

Sheiba will bark and howl (she grew up around Sarge, who barked). Her bark is very high pitched, but it always leads into a howl or wooo.

Denali will howl, and sometimes bark, but it isn't very often (she grew up around Sarge too).

Ike is a complete howler/woo'er. No barking for him!

Kelso will try to immitate the huskies when they get all riled up (when someone comes home and they're talking), he tries his hardest to "rrooooo rooo". It sounds so funny.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for your response.
Neeka was around only Huskies, so maybe the other Huskies there did alot of barking.
Her bark is very sharp and she does it alot, that's why I miss the woo woo , it was a bit softer and more pleasant.
I guess I figured she was a husky so I just assumed she would howl or do the woo woo.
Kelso sounds funny with his copying the huskies. He almost sounds like Scooby Doo.
Yes that is a good idea to play wolf cds, now I just have to find one.
Woo woo to all of you.......................
Lisa

You could also try encouraging him to join YOU in a howl-along. Try different pitches and ranges. I find with my boys if I do a high pitch howl until the join in and then drop to a medium pitch they will howl along pretty good. If he doesnt pick up on it you can try different sounds like cellphone rings/songs that hit high notes, instruments, opra singers, etc.

Wolf sounds can be found on some nature cds and other tribal cds that focus on music made by native americans.

you could go on internet searches for audio of howling (i dont have a sibe but i heard this works)

try to find A site where you can play the audio on the site instead of buying it and play it over and over
