If you're interested in a Doberman, do your research first. Here are a few informative sites. Even if you're not wanting a Doberman, you can get a better understanding of the breed. They are truly amazing dogs. (I'm biased, of course)

Gooch - LOL!!!
Carrie, thanks for those sights!! They were really good. After hearing so much about the Dobes, I'm starting to become a fancier of them! (The Boxers are still ranked #1 in my book though But the Dobes are moving up!) |

LOL Ritz. And I think the same about Boxers. LOL.
Yup Gooch. We Doberman owners can really relate to eachother. They're all alike. When I was first looking into getting a Dobe, I talked to one breeder. She was telling me how very velcro they are. I said that my Chihuahuas are always following me into the bathroom and my cat too. She said, "Yea, BUT....a Doberman will not only come into the bathroom. He'll want to help you wipe." LOL How vulgar, but it's true. They are not content to be merely near you. They have to be on you and helping you at all times. LOL. I'm glad I taught Lyric the "leave it" command. These dogs are major goosers if there ever were any....can't turn your back on them when you just get out of the shower. If you close them out of the bath room, they act as though it's the end of the world. When you open the door, they act like you've been away out of town for months and they're so glad to make a re-aquaintance with you. LOL |

Thanks for the sites Carrie. I'm really really stuck on Dobermans now. I'd like to get a male when I get out on my own, and his name will be D'Sotto or Diego

They are characters, but they're not easy as youngsters or ever. They require so much time, more than other breeds I've had. They're not for everyone. They look awful good with some of those descriptions but it takes a lot of homework and work before getting one to be prepared. They are just a lot of dog.
Going to shows and talking to people is one great way to get information and reading tons and tons. My Lyric has taken so much effort on my part with socializing and training because I live in such a remote area so I'd have to drive every day 30 - 60 minutes to take him to the city to get him exposed to everything. But it paid off. He's turning out great. |

Dobermans are such characters.. I would love to have one someday.. But I don't think I'll be ready for another energetic young dog for a good, long time. LOL.
I love helpful dogs... Border Collies are the same way, they don't just want to be near you, they want to be involved in your life.. That's a must for me. |

I know what you mean about them wanting to be everywhere you are, my male will howl if I go into a room without him, though if I leave the house completly he's fine. I also think its so funny how they inch their little butt up on your lap or the couch. They think they're so sneaky! LOL! |
