Husky Owners?
Hi
I have a Husky pup who is 7 months old and very tiny, she weighs 23 lbs. My previous husky was much bigger and got to 62 lbs. Does anyone else have a small Husky out there? How much more do you think she will grow between 7 and 12 months? I had planned to do skijorring with her and scooterjorring , but I wonder if I will be able to do that. Her mom was 43 lbs and her dad was 53 lbs. She went through a really rough time with Giardia and diarhea, I was wondering if that might have stunted her growth. Any input would be greatly appreciated. She is a sweet heart and doing wonderfully in obedience class. Oh also she is on prescription Hills Z/D because that is the only thing that was able to stop the diarhea, they think she may have food allergies but is otherwise healthy. |

My oldest husky is about 40 pounds. She's 5 years old. She only weighed 30 pounds by the time she hit 1 year.
It sounds to me like she is taking on her mothers size. Generally the puppies will weight anywhere between their parents. Also remember that they really don't stop growing until 2-3 years of age. They may stop getting taller by 1 year, but they continue to fill out. This is when my huskies started to gain weight. Sheiba cannot lose or gain weight. She stays about the same. I don't think her size would be anything to worry about. Sheiba can pull me on my skates without any problems, and has been able to do so ever since she was young. She's a small girl, but she's got the heart of a true working dog. |

Hi IceyBlueSibes
Thanks for your response. You made me feel better, I was really starting to worry about her being so tiny. Everyone asks me if she is a Klee Kai which is a breed that looks like a miniature husky, I had never heard about it before. So I hope she grows to be at least 35 lbs, I heard that is the minimum weight for pulling, not sure if that is true or not. Your Sheiba sounds like a sweetie. |

Not a problem
For a pretty long time (past 1 year of age) everyone would ask us if she was a puppy cause she was so tiny. I've seen the Klee Kai before. They're cute! But apparently are a lot like the "designer dogs". However, I don't know much about it so I don't comment on the reason/history of them. She is definetly a sweetie. She's a pistol, that's for sure! LOL She keeps everyone in the house in line! |

I have a male Husky and at 2 years old he weighed in at 25-ish lbs. He was small for a long time but well he was skinny cause he was abused and I rescued him but after he got to eat regularly he put on his full weight of 45-50 lbs and he is now 3 1/2 years old.

We have a very small bitch at the kennel who weighs 30-35Lbs on a good day. Nothing is wrong with her she simply forgot how to grow. But wouldnt you know, that lil stinker is just as driven to work as any other husky in the kennel. She is remarkably strong and fast for her size having no problems keeping up with the big guys. And to top it all off, she is turning out to be an awesome little lead dog too!
