just another reason i love dogs
i just thought you might be interested here.
every night around 9:30 dabian goes fing crazy. i had no clue why until tonight. heres what i normally do when he starts barking like crazy, i just open the door and say "go get em" lol. he runs out barking like crazy stands on this rock in the back yard and just stares into the woods. now i have 2 neighbors, but they are no way in hell close, you acually need binoculars to see their house thru the woods! so tonight, hes on the rock sniffing and watching and i decide to go out there and see what the hell hes doing. i always think its deer or something. i hear a faint bark! hes barking at the neighbors dogs. maybe they let the dogs out at that time before they go to sleep and they bark to get let inside or something, dabian hears it and goes nuts. i cannot believe how good this dogs hearing is. i barely can hear it and he hears it in a sound sleep on his couch in the house, and my house is ALL thick *** wood. simply amazing. my dad says its communication, i say its a warning. maybe he thinks that they are around the house and making sure they dont come on the property. i love dogs, they are just the greatest. |

You know; when my husband was at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, at night the guys would hear a shot fired from the cuban side and then the guys on base would fire a round, sort of a way to say " hey, you still there and awake?" Followed by " Yep, we are!" lol Maybe its the same thing for Dabian and the neighboring pooches? ![]() |

I know dogs hate when they see a strange dog around their place.
and to Crossfire Bulldogs: yesterday I gave one of my 2 male dobes to my uncle, I read your your sig "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." Now Im thinking of him, I miss him very much. |

Dogs have greater hearing than anyone. We can't even hear a dog whistle, but they can. I think your right about why he goes nuts at the same time each night. Your distant neighbors put their dogs out before going to bed. I wonder if they make them stay out all night or the dogs are just clearing all the "boogie-men" out of the woods before going back in.

A dogs sense of hearing truly is amazing! During winter I'll be walking OC along a trail and he'll suddenly pounce to the side and start digging, then shove his nose under the snow, and dig again then more nosing (sometimes he goes so deep only his butt sticks out) and eventually he'll just spring back up with nothing, or a mouse will come running out, or I'll call him off. It's cute to watch though! It just amazes me that he's able to hear the mouse under all the snow, I hear nothing!
