First BB command - Down!

Hey I am new to this site. My name is Jamar. I just joined up looking for other Boerboel owners. Boerboels are rare dogs here in the States.. (Well somewhat rare) but are a beautifull breed of dogs. I just wanted to share my experiences with others who are interested or own Boerboels.

Well they are becoming more popular and here in Arizona we have a few, we got two breeders here who are also appraisers with certification from the South African Boerboel Association.. S.A.B.T
Well so far my Boerboel is 18 weeks and 60 pounds, and she's a little shy around other dogs, but once she starts playing with the other dogs, you CAN"T stop her. She loves people, but if they are not welcomed in the house, even at 4 months she will not let them in. I had the pool guy show up and turn around one day I wasn't home last week, the pool guy said she's definetly a guard dog, she was scared but barked nonstop and even lounged at his leg, She barked non stop at him until he left. Now if another dogs run on our property, she runs back towards me? They say that's normal at the puppy stage for the boerboel. To me that's strange scared of dogs, but not people. LOL I take her to the dog park and at 4 months she owns it, she plays with the other dogs no matter how big they are.. LOL The worst thing you can do to a boerboel is be in one room and close the door, they definetly don't ever want to have you out of there site. Me and my girl goes to the dog park and she will not play with other dogs unless we are standing together or sitting together, if one of use tries to leave, she is grabbing and biting at the legs to get us back together. A dog with her on personality I tell you. |

thanks for the comments, I would love to upload some photos, only if I knew how. I can send you guys picture through email. My email is jamarjames@azhomereality.com
Midget mastifs? No offense taken. LOL I have taken the Boerboels around Mastiffs, Filas Brasillias, Cane Corsco American Pit Bulls and they aren't even close.. Although if I had to say one dog that has similiarities it would be the Cane Corsco. However the Boerboel are alot wider and more muscular. Head size, well some boerboels necks are 36 inches around, and I think large pitbulls heads are about 28 inches The Boerboel are genetically well built, not any "loose" skin, and the healthies Molloser breed that exist. The boerboel was bred to guard and protect the family on farms in Africa. (Okay and some stories, well it's been documented protecting the family against Leopards and in most cases kill the leopard before it can run off.) It's also known as the True Lion Dog in Africa. The African's believe its half dog and half lion.. (these are myths folks).. Back to the facts, It was the only animal specifically bred to protect and guard. It doesn't have any known health problems and sick Boerboels had been eliminated from the breeding programs. For example most large dogs (such as the Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, etc) have been known to have hip problems, and other genetic defects. There are no known genetic defects for the Boerboel breed. The Mastiff is a larger dog, but it will be hard to find a dog that has a muscular portioned body as a mastif. Put a Mastiff and a Boerboel next to each other, you will run if you see either, but you want get away froma Boerboel.. LOL (Okay and I a may be a "little" bias, but maybe I shouldn't tell people about the breed alot of the owners like them being rare.) LOL About the Cane Corsco, I also love that dog. Besides the Tosa, that's the dog I was looking into before I got the Boerboel. It's a beautifull dog and has the guard and protection qualities that I love in a dog. ( the Tosa doesn't and it's too dog agressive. ) Also the family dog and loyalty traits I look for. However the Cane Corsco is supposedly dog aggresive and that was it's only fault in my eye. The Boerboel was bred to protect the home, children, and animals on the farm and its not dog or animal agressive at all. It plays with others dogs like they are it's family. However, if a dog is acting agressive towards any one or anything the boerboel feels it's there duty to eliminate the threat. So it's a working dog, with it's on opinions, just like its owner. |

Oh but dear sir, the corso is NOT supposed to be dog aggressive! They are herders and protectors, but not fighters
They are more human aggressive than dog aggressive, and they are not supposed to go out looking for a fight, but of course, if picked upon, they will be the ones to end it!Here is my "aggressive" corso! ![]() |
